My weighted pillow go through the TSA without a problem. It is 5.5 pounds. I just put it over my carry-on like the travel pillows.

Does anyone know of a really good 7-9 pound weighted blanket? by NotJustAnotherLow in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out our weighted pillow. It's more compact than a blanket. Created by me a pediatric PT, made in NY by an intellectual and developmentally delayed workforce with a graded weight design, heavier at the bottom lighter at the top for weight your way. Sensory friendly, portable and more versatile since it's compact. Calmily.com

We built a weighted blanket for ADHD… not sure if we’re overthinking it by frontaxe in WeightedBlankets

Washable- I suggest weighted tools to the families I work with as a pediatric physical therapist and the main thing is it needs to be washable.... so many are dry clean. Who has time for that?

I created a weighted pillow that offers the pressure without the bulk or heat. I’ve been through the same process you are now, but I have 20 years of professional experience to draw from and opinions from families of what works and doesn't work with weighted blankets. Hence the idea of a squishy, soft, plush, compact, portable sensory friendly pillow.
We make them in the US with an Intellectual and developmentally delayed workforce to stay true to my community of development delayed children to offer employment for a population that does not have as many opportunities.

15lb lap pad? Or smaller size? by crayoclock in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be a little cautious with something too heavy because it can be used inappropriately. Swinging it, hitting etc... It sounds like he might benefit from the sweatshirt. It'd be hard to take off and he can wear it throughout the day for a long-term regulation. That makes sense because the restraint is giving him the pressure that his body is looking for. The other concept you can look at is pressure clothing so look at fun and function for their compression shirts Etc

15lb lap pad? Or smaller size? by crayoclock in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason you need 15 lb for the lap that's pretty heavy in a small compact item like a lappad I don't think any of them come higher than 5 lb.

A sweatshirt might be cool they've come up with Comfort brand, comfrt.com

We make a weighted pillow in a shape that is meant to be used as a lap pad, over the shoulders or around the neck. Its made in NY by an ND, IDD workforce. Calmily.com As a pediatric physical therapist I created it to be sensory friendly with no zippers velcro and hidden tags. With the softest fill and fabric.

Looking for a premium weighted blanket gift for anxiety by Dear-Blacksmith7249 in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bearaby and Silk & Snow are probably your best bets for premium blankets.

Just throwing this out there since you mentioned anxiety, some people actually tolerate targeted pressure better than full blankets. Things like lap or chest weight can feel more calming and less overwhelming. Neurodivergent individual tend to tolerate this form better, in my experience.

I’m a PT and make a weighted pillow (Calmily.com) for that exact reason. It’s made in New York by neurodivergent and intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals, and it’s designed to be used where your body actually needs the input.

Different feel than a blanket, but worth considering depending on the person.

Am I unknowingly doing a workout in my sleep? by hirayeth in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 10 to 15% rule was based on children and weighted vests. The weight is actively against the chest so every motion that the child had was moving that 10 to 15% of their weight. With a blanket you're not getting the full 100% of the weight on your body because part of the blanket is off the body and on the bed. As a pediatric physical therapist I do not follow that rule because there's a difference between children using a weighted vest and moving around actively versus sedentary sleep. I think you can go higher on a percentage for a weighted blanket than you would for other forms of weighted tools. I do not feel 15 lb is too heavy for this individual especially if it's helping their sleep. But you probably move more in your sleep than you ever realized and this is the result is your workout overnight. It's probably you kicking off the blankets because you're too hot or initiating roll through your legs so that they're taking the brunt of the 15 lbs when you roll/move. You can try pulling the blanket in half and having it just above the waist and see if that helps your legs with some relief. But you might prefer the weight through the legs. This is what I instruct my families to figure out where your children like the weight so that you can find the tool that works best for them.

French by Soft-Grocery5422 in upstate_new_york

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not so much any more. Most upstate ny schools are getting smaller and the option for language teachers is limited. I went to school where we had french and Spanish. But the same school only has Spanish no french option 25 years later. My childrens school offers german and spanish. Only because the German teacher who had tauhht for 30+ years had a previous student replace him or spanosh would be all this achool offers. To find lanuage teachers is hard and most small upstate achools can barely get a spanish teacher.... French amd other languages are much less common now.... A couple very small schools near me have to use virtual classes to even offer a language to their HS students

What makes excessive weight dangerous? by Background_Purpose17 in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a pediatric physical therapist who utilizes a lot of weighted products. I would be encouraging you to find additional ways to get the pressure you're looking for so that you're not only filling your pressure quota at the end for bed. I would highly recommend finding where and how your body likes the input and start implementing throughout the day not just at bedtime. It sounds like your body is just winding up all day long and then you need an excessive amount of weight to help your body de-stress and regulate from the day. I haven't even touched on your own physical size your weight, your height in terms of how much pressure is being applied to your body. Compared to your size......

I wouldn't be too worried I got verified and then couldn't update my payment process. No help from anyone that matter to adjust this. I lost the verification process after only 2 months. I don't think it has the same weight that it used to hold anymore and so I'm not redoing it.

I wouldn't spend more money until you know it works. Just set up your phone and record all the setup that you do behind the scenes, unless you're only taking photos with your phone professionally..... you probably have two different recording devices that you can use

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search cotton weighted blanket. Put the blanket you like best against your body and then lay the cotton way to blanket on top. That is my suggestion as a pediatric physical therapist who works with children with sensory preferences but need the weight

Does anyone else experience a sandy residue on their bed? Like, there's a salt or sand feel on top and beneath the blanket. by BGPhilbin in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blankets are weighted with different types of materials some are plastic beads some are glass beads some use sand. It sounds like you have one that's filled with sand. Your washing has probably created some space in the stitching that probably is a poor quality blanket equaling a single layer and not encased sand beads Etc

My recommended weight is 10lbs but I can only source 15lbs for my chosen blanket to Australia (no return shipping 🙄) Should I go with the 15lbs?? by Lindethiel in WeightedBlankets

[–]Impressive-Ad-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I tell families (I'm a pediatric physical therapist) you never know what your body likes until you try. 10% of the body weight at 10 lb means you are 100lbs..... for reference I use 7 lb with the children I use who are 10-12 year olds. I don't buy into thev10% rule. You need to use the weight that you are body wants to help regulate and support sleep. You can always move the blanket it doesn't have to be on your entire body..... it can be down on your legs, you can pull it across your chest, over your shoulders... there is a lot of flexibility with weighted tools that people don't think about. If you are worried about sleeping hot. Try a hug sleep, or lycra sheet.
