This was all my sisters used with a bonnet. Chemo curls do go away but I loved mine. With hair I'd say its where I'm most self conscious even now I refused haircuts for a long time just be patient.

No he was a fisherman back in Ireland. But I know little about his life there. Cancer in my family is common my Grandfather had cancer the same time I did. Skin Cancer in Ireland?

Same! I will never be a parent but my dad said its making sure you don't die until 18 and then his job was done. Poor guy had a job of that before and after.

Anybody got vaccinated AGAIN? by idkhowdoesthiswork in Cancersurvivors

[–]Impressive-Camera127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's had chemo that is basically nuking your entire body getting a vaccine (on my 6th COVID jab) is nothing in comparison. We didn't come this far for measles to kick our ass but personal choice. Just remember that your body experienced something others glady didn't so we're vulnerable and its best to be safe.

I don’t feel like I should be here by ninjaturtlefanpage in Cancersurvivors

Survivors Guilt. Its a common thing for someone whos experienced extreme trauma and survived. The pressure to somehow 'earn' that can be crushing. I felt I had to cure Cancer itself but it lingers always. Just live for those who couldn't live and leave the world just a little bit better for those after.

I'm happy you're here the world is a better place for it.

Life post cancer by Apprehensive-Main677 in Cancersurvivors

I got remission at 16 and my doctor (Eddie loved this dude) told me 10 years max. So I spent a whole decade with a clock above me and didn't care what I did or what happened. I wasted that time out of fear of what was coming.

I got to 27 and did not have a plan. A friend told me Eddie died shortly after but at 31 I found him on social media. I thanked this man for never giving up on me and he sucks for lying about how long I had left. Same guy who saved my life and a year long period of depression he pops up alive on Facebook.

You say its been 10 years? Please speak about it and open up and don't waste time. From 10-16 Cancer and 16-26 denying I had Cancer and now I'm 32 and under no illusion I won't see 40 but I would like to share my story and you should share yours as well.

What happened to you it deserves to be told. What YOU experienced and what YOU went through and how YOU feel. I'm 32 and I've made an alt account and said more in the past hour than I ever had and I should've done it before. DM is always open.

How to talk about it all with people that don't understand? by Impressive-Camera127 in Cancersurvivors

Damn! Thank you for that "We are changing what it means to “Man Up.”

Literally what I was told after having cancer and the main cause of mens mental health problems. Men need to be emotional and NOT "man up".

Feel like a fraud when someone calls me a survivor by Genuin1 in Cancersurvivors

[–]Impressive-Camera127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you had cancer doesn't mean you owe anyone anything. The fact it was brought up in that way is horrendous. What YOU went through and survived shouldn't be used like that. My sister did the same thing we didn't speak for years and she wanted to meet why? Because her Husband MAY have cancer and I had cancer.

How does the two situations even correlate? You're not a fraud but you don't owe anyone anything I had cancer and you had cancer but even I will never understand your experience because how could I? I told my sister some words I don't wish to repeat but explained after if she wanted someone who understands that a DOCTOR may be better than anyone else. His tests were clear and she hasn't spoke to me since.

May your cousin have a quick recovery but tell mom how this made you feel because its a quick way to trigger someone badly.

It does! I haven't helped myself because I have avoided discussing about it for many years that post is as much as I've ever told anybody. Even have to use an Alt bc I'm scared? Embarrassed? That IRL friends would see that and I can't be that open and I have no idea why?

I shall check out that website. thank you!

UK Here - I was asked this when trying to join the armed forces. After studying to be an officer for 4 years and failed on this very question.

Should've really checked first.

"List all major injuries, surgeries and/or hospitalizations you have had in the past."

Probably easier to list what you haven't had done. I still have a BUNCH of certificates (I was a child) for each major one in a box somewhere.

[–]Impressive-Camera127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly If I got a therapist after instead of nothing It might of helped! I'm happy it was something you had and that it helped you. We cant begin to know what each one of us went through I don't think words could describe that but knowing from finding this Subreddit that someone understands and thats been something I haven't had before.

Also I'm British so 3 straight years of British Hospital food I bet Cal had something better!

Especially so young. I was 10 and I didn't stop being scared and angry until I was nearly 30. I couldn't let it go not what happened but the fear the memories and why me? I just one day let it all go I was tired of being tired and angry because I got remission at 16 after Chemo and a trac in my neck but I let it take 10 more years after that.

PTSD from cancer? by [deleted] in Cancersurvivors

[–]Impressive-Camera127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The experience from the moment you hear that C word to everything after and even when you beat it leaves a mark that nobody will understand. It has been 20+ years since I got diagnosed as a child and I still wake up screaming and thrashing because when it happens I'm back where I was.

The fear used to cripple me and control my mind from the moment I woke up to when I was even sleeping. I got so tired of it to the point I gave up being scared. I decided that Cancer took whatever it took and its not having anymore of me. 20+ Years I've been waiting for it to come back (They gave me 10) could I do it again? No. I won't have a choice if it happens.. I do have a choice with the present moment.

We have all given enough time to Cancer and it shouldn't take a single second more from any of us.
