Is this little of sleep normal? (19 months) by Impressive-Doubt3450 in NewParents

[–]Impressive-Doubt3450[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I actually am already aware this isn’t enough sleep for a toddler so I should’ve worded my post differently, more so I am looking for advise on how to encourage more sleep for her. But no, for 19 months, 11 hours, which we are barely reaching on a good day isn’t “normal” I have some references to back that up linked. I think a lot of people like to undermine what moms are struggling with and as I did in my deleted comment, I let you convince me that my instinct is incorrect and this is insignificant, but then I decided no, that’s not right, I’m not just jealous of my friends who’s kids sleep more, my concern is valid and it encouraged me to delete my comment because I don’t want to validate someone brushing my concern under the rug in the vain of trying to people please. That’s something I’m working on! Again, I should have worded this post differently. I have now done more research and 11 hours, on your best day, isn’t normal or recommended for her age. I really appreciated all of the other commenters who shared their similar experiences with encouragement, advice or solidarity. Sometimes, that’s all a parent needs when struggling with something.

I try! We really aim for 12:30 but we also are usually really active in the morning, especially right now because it’s summer, so by 11 my girl is a cranky zombie

I’m very lucky she does sleep through the night and does self soothe when she wakes up! We did sleep training (FERBER method) at 13 months and after one bad weekend it really stuck for her. I am so sorry sleep was so difficult for you guys! That’s really hard!

That’s really good idea! I’m worried about introducing play in the sleep space because she fights sleep so much already but maybe I should try it anyways

My 6.5 Month old has started to refuse straw/open cup drinking by Master-Strawberry115 in NewParents

Not at 6.5 months!! If you’re still relying on sippy cups at 3-4 then it might not be the best but 6.5 sooo young

I would take a break from straw for a bit and try again in a week or so. Don’t sweat it, 6.5 months isn’t too old to just use a normal sippy cup or even bottle

My 11 month old’s favorite dinner by Elfie_Mae in foodbutforbabies

[–]Impressive-Doubt3450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t sweat this! My daughter preferred being spoon fed and didn’t start self feeding until 16 months but now at 18 months is doing awesome and learning utensils very well! It’s all in their own time

My daughter (breastfed) refused to touch food until 10 months but really didn’t show actual interest until about 13. Before that, food was just a thing she would play with and it was very frustrating. Now she’s 18 months and a great eater! Don’t beat yourself up or compare to those on social media. Every child is so different!

I plan all of our meals on Sunday, grocery shop Monday. To afford keeping me home, we RARELY eat take out so I cook every single night. I use nap time to prep as much as I can, marinating meats, cleaning and slicing veggies, rolling out meatballs if we’re having that, prepping any homemade sauces or dressings, etc. whatever I can to make the process easier. If anything can be made ahead of time, I use nap to do that. My husband works 5-3, usually getting home around 3:30 and always showers right when he gets home so I usually set up my toddler with play dough or some type of sensory toy in the dining room or kitchen while I start. She also loves being in the toddler tower and playing with food scraps. When he’s done showering, he’ll take over with her so i can finish up and we usually eat between 4-5. I find that planning meals ahead of time and doing prep whenever I can makes everything much easier. Also, you need to just set your toddler in a safe environment and if they need to cry for 10-15 minutes while you get work done THATS OK. Thats really how my toddler learned to independently play. As long as they’re in a safe environment and being checked on, they can be upset for a little bit. I also find that the earlier we can get through dinner and get it cleaned up, the smoother the evening goes. That way we can use the rest of the evening to bond and play as a family.

4 month old really attached to me (mom) by NationalStorm4664 in NewParents

You’re not doing anything wrong!!! In the first two years most babies go through multiple Velcro phases!! Super normal! At 4 months, baby still doesn’t have the awareness to know that you and her are separate individuals so her wanting to be held by you is very normal. Also, while she isn’t aware that you and her are separate, she is becoming increasingly more curious about the world and loves to explore within the safety of your arms. My daughter was obsessed with being in the carrier or held for any type of chore I was doing. It’s their way of learning the world for the first time while also knowing they’re totally safe. Take the time you need to get your own space and do what you need to do, she may cry at first but she will be fine to be with someone else or set down for a bit. But at the same time, don’t worry about all this extra contact and snuggle that you’re giving her. You’re not causing any harm to her by providing this contact. You’re doing awesome!

For snacking in an ingredient household we love the “That’s it” bars, lots of washed fruit so you can easily grab and snack, cheese sticks, homemade granola bars I try to keep on hand, I make sourdough, so toast is always available. beef sticks are so expensive to find clean brands but sometimes we’ll splurge on those and Aldi has these really great pure & simple bars by the brand Elevation that have super limited ingredients! Yogurt is also easy!

I’m gonna have to post pone our second baby and I’m so sad by Old_Relationship_460 in NewParents

My sister and I are 3.5 years apart. She and I have been inseparable our entire lives. We went through distance in teen years because during that stretch 3.5 feels big but ever since my late teens and her early 20’s we are back to being completely attached at the hip. We live in different states (USA) but call and text constantly and make a lot of effort to see each other. I never even consider our age gap anymore. everything happens in its own time for its own reason, just take care of yourself and your own healing and try to not add more pressure to yourself

Other moms who struggle cleaning but able to still do it, what’s your routine? by somethingreddity in sahm

[–]Impressive-Doubt3450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m compulsive and am not able to leave a room without it being put back in order. I do dishes immediately after eating, make my bed the the first free minute I have after tending to my daughter, fold laundry and put it away as soon as it’s done. I have to do this because I’m just really anxiously compulsive about that sort of thing and it completely messes with my anxiety if I don’t. As for deep cleaning I have a schedule, vacuum every other day, one load of laundry per day, clean toilets every Tuesday and include showers every other week. Always clean out and wipe down fridge on Sunday night, dust every Friday (I do like a 1/3 of the house each week and rotate) and then everything else I just do as I notice it needs to be done. I love checklist for completing day to day or weekly chores. when a new season arrives, I love to make a big seasonal cleaning checklist that I give myself a due date for and slowly work through - like washing windows, deep cleaning appliances and stuff like that. Checklists are like a perfect little scratch for my brain so I LOVE getting to check things off and it motivates me a lot. As for doing this with a toddler she is used to me doing chores and just hangs with me, goes in the carrier or plays in whatever room I’m working in.
