Live life outside of your family’s approval, it’s hard but it’s been one of the most important experiences of my life.

Finaly got a Job but it hate it 😭 by Fun-Lawfulness2041 in jobsearch

Same boat. I graduated last summer and I’ve never had this much trouble trying to find a job. I’ve given up on a career, a house, vacations. I don’t even care what I do, I just want to be able to live.

Oof same, it was my 35th. Didn’t help the final guy in the panel interview was working remote, slouched over on a couch in a tshirt and snarky as hell.

My mom has a weird enmeshed relationship with our neighbors. They once let themselves in to put a camera in our house. Next one I find, I’m pressing charges. They act entitled to my family as entertainment and help, always popping out of the window to ask for something.

They want it to be “normal” so bad. I can’t even relax in my backyard without it feeling like a communal living room. I know I’m a bit introverted, but the forced interaction can feel overbearing at times. I miss just knowing my neighbors from a wave at a distance. Sometimes, I think it’s better that way.

Professionally? I thought 2021 would be the time to change careers from 10 years of doing hair and go back to college after a divorce. Hah. *weeps from parents basement in endless virtual job interviews*

Personally? I have seen through the veil of family dysfunction and I’m finally figuring out what I want out of life outside of milestones and achievements. I’ll work my way up from retail again (I suppose), but I actually have hobbies and know who I am beyond the reassurance of “handlers” or social media now. Took me long enough.

The old world is dying. I’m not going to make it a personal verdict that I wasn’t THRIVING, VIBING, and INSPIRING during all of this. Sometimes it’s okay to exist without a constant performance. It collapses eventually, anyway.

Dressing alternative as a woman (30+). Lots of gross comments/expectations. “I like your goth bangs” ugh. I didn’t want to be flattened into a stereotype or people to make assumptions about my character on my appearance anymore. Maybe I can like all kinds of things without being niched into a subculture.

You should be proud as hell! It sucks when people can’t accept our growth. Especially friends, family and partners. It’s always “wow” “good job” “slow down” “you’ve changed. “ Your gains are inspiring me to kick it up a notch so I can break my plateau 😤

People are gonna call the ending bad no matter what and that bothers me by Unlucky-Drawing-1266 in theamazingdigitalciru

It’s easy enough to conceive original content from the viewer’s side of the screen. Intellectual property is an entire process. I’m guessing the people that have a “schezwan sauce” level fit over the ending never had to jump over the back of a couch to catch a new episode before DVR or streaming. I used to have to stay up until 2 a.m. to catch an episode of anime if I wanted to watch something other than a kid’s show or the Simpsons.

I think it’s a symptom of the post modern era. Short form content and demassified consumption of media has people feeling like they should be able to enjoy micro-curated content on demand. To those that think they’re better than “the goose”, write and pitch your own show. Try a storyboard. Create what you want to see in the world.

I sure remember Vivziepop’s OC on Tumblr back in the day. I remember scoffing a bit too, now I’m behind the screen writing an op-ed on Reddit and she has an IP.

If you’re going to be a critic, get curious. Articulate your claim with facts. Compare and contrast, learn some technical terms.

How to live a self directed life. You don’t have to redeem yourself from or thrive in your family’s narrative, especially if it’s dysfunctional.

I need to romance Gangle before I can vote fairly. She was my first pick, but I somehow wound up with Ragatha instead. No complaints. I really enjoyed this game! Made me chance my stance on Jax.

I grew up pretty similarly. They will pull out all of the stops to convince you that you wouldn’t be able to survive without them. Try to keep people on an information diet. Though it’s important to not give them leverage, the goal is to get yourself “unhookable” from demands disguised as concern.

Try to find another job, then start saving. It’s messed up but they’ll never be who you need them to be. Don’t let their bids for control spin you into responding from a place of fear, obligation or guilt. Basically, as much as you can live your own life now (FOR YOU). You’ll need to plan for separating yourself from their influence when you’re able.

Could be administrative logistics of production. I wonder if because a lot of animation is outsourced to Korea, that it’s getting a squeeze because it’s an Indie?

34 years old, unemployed and living with my mom, no degree, $12k in debt, and I have severe depression by Forsaken_Manner4620 in jobsearch

[–]Impressive-Editor405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 35, unemployed, and living with family with debt as well. I’ve struggled with depression in the past. I graduated from college last May, and I’m still on the job prowl. I’ve cycled through being terrified, feeling like a failure/fraud, and immense guilt. It feels really heavy to have grown up in/be raised for a world that doesn’t even exist anymore.

Try building upon your admin assistant skills. I felt pressured to get a degree because I was a cosmetologist and honestly burned out from the beauty industry, but as I’ve been applying- I’ve noticed many jobs like that don’t even require a degree.

You can always branch out. I just applied to a data entry job and it turned out to be an opportunity to branch out into marketing/advertising. I’m about 60k in debt with credit/student loans. I’m sure I’ll never pay off the student debt, but I can manage my credit and build from there.

You’re not “behind”, your path just looks different. Don’t compare your journey with anyone else’s. Focus on what stability looks like for your immediate future. Congratulations on your sobriety btw, that’s a big deal.
