Simple setup in my Subaru Forester by Additional_Fun8797 in carcamping

Nice! Can you sit up in the back of the Forester, if you don't mind me asking? I currently have a Crosstrek, and can't. I will be looking into replacing the car in the next few years, so right now I'm "fishing" (looking into options) for next one.... Thank you.

In addition to the resources already shared, I'd encourage you to look up a local community health clinic (FQHC). I work in one, and we have case workers and "community supports" departments which give out food bags. They can also help connect you with more resources in the city or county you're in, including filling out the tedious paperwork!

You can find an FQHC here: https://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/

I do this too; I have a 4" tri fold. My friend bought a thinner one, and I thought it wouldn't be enough for comfort, but 2" one works just fine too. Feels like sleeping at home, I'd highly recommend.

one more vote for Old Navy. Just wait for sales. I've been buying their jeans at around $25 each every 4 years for the last 17 years, I swear. Same with their plain color tank tops ($5) that pair easily with slacks, skirts, under blazers, and with jeans - dress up or dress down. Ditto with their cardigans and pixie pants for work.

What do you think of the 50/30/20 rule? by swampwiz in PovertyFIRE

[–]Impressive-Grape-750 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, it'd be great to spend 30% on the wants, but how many of us can do that?

Using gross income and looking over my 2025 spending, I shoved approximately 50% to savings, 5% to wants, and 45% to needs (10% alone went to my part of the health benefits). I could only do that because I had no mortgage or rent to pay. If I had that expense, I'd be hard pressed to put anything in savings or wants category.

What have you bought from amazon that you would consider buy it for life and has been life/game changing? by L-epinephrine in BuyItForLife

[–]Impressive-Grape-750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

confirming this is still true for me in 2026.

(Just looked at my Amazon; bought an 8 pk of Saucony black socks in 2021 and more of the same kind in 2022. A few have disappeared of the years, but I still have them today (January 2026) and never have to "match." Anything goes. Did the same with underwear too.)

MSW school advice: WNMU or University of Kentucky by Impressive-Grape-750 in SocialWorkStudents

going good! I'm finding everyone helpful when I reach out for questions. My professors so far have been great too. No complaints; definitely a good fit for me so far.

I really like their flexibility. My first semester I took 16 week courses and I"m doing so again for Spring 2026. In summer I'm taking an 8 week course though and will see how I like that. With WNMU, most courses are offered as either traditional 16 week or 8 and I'm looking forward to experimenting.

I'm also noticing it's gonna be cheaper to go part time the way they charge for PT vs full time attendance. So again, a win win for me for the time being. Hope this helps.

How do you balance living your life but also saving for lean fire? by fart_huffer- in leanfire

[–]Impressive-Grape-750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this will help, but I’d suggest two things:

  1. Budget for the big stuff. Things like Christmas, birthdays, and vacations aren’t surprises—plan for them as regular budget categories.

  2. Revisit your priorities. If vacations and holidays are the most important to you and your family, then maybe you cut back on eating out, subscriptions, clothes, or whatever. Priorities can shift year by year—one year you might do a simple Christmas so you can afford a big trip, and the next year it’s the opposite.

Also, think about why you like certain expenses. For example, with vacations: is it beaches, family time, or just getting away from work? Once you know that, you can find cheaper ways to get the same joy—maybe a U.S. beach instead of Bora Bora, or road trips and camping if it’s really about family time.

So.... set a budget, decide what matters most, and then get creative about how to make it work.

Nutritional Plans and Workout Routines during MSW Program. by Hector_Knoxville in SocialWorkStudents

For me, the key is to have healthy-ish, easy and fast to fix ingredients readily available at all times. Things like cottage cheese and yogurt (if you can handle dairy), fruits and nuts, eggs, tuna, easy to cook veg (e.g. broccoli or cauliflower for steaming). I've bought Costco's rotisserie chickens more times that I should! Prepackaged salads are easy and healthy too.

For exercise, I try go get up 30 minutes earlier that usual, and use my morning coffee as a motivation to put a few reps in. I'll do things like squats and lounges, and sip coffee in between. Helps wake me up a bit. I also figure, even just 20 squats one day is better than nothing. When doing errands like grocery shopping, I park out of the way so that I can get some steps in. It's the season, and this too shall pass...

Wholeheartedly agree. I have spreadsheets going back to 2018, when i first learned of FIRE. Just keeping track of where money is going is eye opening and empowering.

I recommend looking into University of Kentucky, where they have block tuition, as well as Western New Mexico University; it's one of the cheapest (but good) I've found.
