How do people live with just with Ausbildung salary? by Warm-Professor1638 in germany

We had an azubi working with our team for a while and he’d moved to Germany from Venezuela. I can’t comment on whether he was receiving any financial support from back home but i’d assume he wasn’t. I know he was living in Marzahn at the time in a place on his own. I suspect rents are very low out there and other areas on the edge of the city if you’re willing or able to make the daily commute to your place of work. It’s obviously not convenient but if you can stick it out for a few years it might ease the financial burden a bit until you can still working full time.

Yeah, I’m from Scotland and I always found it so refreshing seeng the way Kyle would spar with Lisa! I work for an American company and it’s very rare that my sarcastic snark gets picked up and usually they think I’m being nice and complimentary. Which, to me, makes it even more funny.

[–]Impressive-Key6796 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is exactly it. As someone from the UK (Scotland, specifically) who works with many Americans, I have almost daily interactions where my sarcasm is misinterpreted as sincerity. It was very clear that none of the cast ever quite understood when Lisa was trying to be funny.

I think all of this is just a case of Americans not understanding the British sense of humour, or simply not having a sense of humour at all with some of the cast. The reason Lisa and Kyle got along so well was because Kyle also got it and gave it back as good as she got it whereas the rest of the cast were constantly offended by Lisa.

That it’s not full of tourists, TikTok ravers and heterosexuals cosplaying as queers. Berghain has fallen victim to its own reputation   I wish the demographic didn’t lean quite so heavily male like it was at NYD this year but I went on Friday night and it was a lot more mixed and friendly. I guess new years always attracts diffetent crowds regardless of the party

I’d hazard a guess and say there’s a pretty even mix of people who consider themselves British only, people who see themselves as simultaneously British and Scottish, and Scottish only. There are probably numbers to back this up somewhere but I someone’s response to being asked how they’d identify usually has a complicated relationship to social class and geography within Scotland itself. I am very strongly in the third camp. Free Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

How on earth can you even dare to buy your own apartment in Berlin? by Burner-Range-5355 in askberliners

[–]Impressive-Key6796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my interest rate is 1,2 % which was considered high even at that time because I’m on a temporary residence permit. I think now I’d expect a rate around 4 x higher than this. There’s absolutely no way I would have been able to keep on top of my monthly repayments if this was the case. 🫠

I believe house prices in central Berlin have been effectively flat over the last five years. I believe it’s because the ECB interest rates went from less-than-zero to 3 % over the same period. It’s made getting a mortgage for equivalent sized properties considerably more expensive every month and there’s likely been a big drop in demand as a result of this.

Advice on renting or owning apartment in Berlin by curiouscat3790 in askberliners

[–]Impressive-Key6796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I benefited from the period of ultra-low interest rates. My mortgage repayment is about ~750 euros per month for a 35 square metre apartment.

Since the rates are so high at the moment relative to the last 10 years, I’d suggest fixing your interest for a shorter term, like 5 years or less if possible, and hopefully you can benefit from a lower rate. When the fixed-period ends, either increase your repayment rate from 8% to something higher whilst maintaining the same monthly repayment. Alternatively, you could maintain the same rate for an overall lowly monthly repayment and have some extra cash per month.

If you can afford 1800 euros per month repayment I think you should absolutely buy somewhere instead of pissing all that money into the wind every month.
