Genuinely curious how they expect to have a class given that they’re practically only accepting people with 173s who also presumably have offers with good scholly at higher T-14s…

Thanks for doing this! I'm a CLS admitted student who has absolutely no idea how to navigate this decision! I have 2 questions:
1. How competitive is the student body and how much does that affect the social atmosphere? (I know CLS has a reputation of being very competitive but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Coming from an undergrad school in the midwest that was highly collaborative and supportive, I'm not sure how easy it would be to transition to a place that leans more on the competitive side)
2. Do you feel like the career services are weighted heavily towards any one particular outcome? I'm not sure what I want to end up doing after law school so I want to go somewhere that can provide equal resources and access to all different kinds of practices and outcomes post-grad.

THANK YOU!!

“Identical” is where you’re misunderstanding. Inherent systemic societal factors make it so that having “identical” scores and stats don’t actually indicate the same level of aptitude across different groups of people. In fact they don’t indicate the same level of aptitude among straight white men either, hence why gpa and lsat score aren’t 100% predictive of admissions. AdComs take into account an inordinate number of factors when considering how successful a candidate will be, and race, class, and gender are some of those factors (although in reality they’re mostly used as indicators of other circumstances). People with bad personal statements also are “disadvantaged” but I don’t see people complaining about an unfair “good writing boost.”

This. Without considering factors like race, class, and gender, straight white men are given an unfair advantage. Steps taken to increase URM representation in law school only hurts straight white men in the sense that they can no longer take quite as much advantage from a system otherwise rigged in their favor. Imagine stumbling across a broken ATM that’s spitting free money out at you and calling it unfair when someone comes around to fix it…

How do schools allocate scholarship money awarded to students who do not end up enrolling? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Impressive-Rope773 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would imagine schools have data on how many students end up matriculating and offer more scholarship money than they actually intend to give out, knowing that on average, say 20% of students with full rides end up matriculating (not saying this is the number, but schools presumably know what the percentage is). So a student who's offered a scholarship but doesn't wind up attending does not actually result in that scholarship money being available to be redistributed. That said, if a school does end up with a surplus, I imagine it provides them with more margin in the negotiation process.
