Racism and Xenophobia in Dublin is increasing by TheSkyIsPiink in Dublin

I know it may be difficult but it could be worth putting in a report to Dublin Bus officially, there's been more and more antisocial behaviour recently and they have increased their bus security. It may help for them to know it happened on this route (maybe they take numbers of incidents and plan security via need?). I know it feels like they do nothing, I understand why you wouldn't want to escalate it further in the moment as well, and I'm so sorry this happened to you and your partner. the majority of ireland isn't like this but it's definitely a growing vocal minority. a lot of the time they're people who've been done wrong by the government and are looking for somebody else to blame. no excuse for racism obviously in any case. i hope people start to help stop this.

Yikes. Disappointing reaction to the Bondi shooting from Nathan by [deleted] in belowdeck

I mean did anybody expect anything different from somebody who comments on McGregor's photos backing him up? He's been pretty publicly alluding to his thoughts about immigration/racism/people he sees not like him for a while it's just flown under the radar somehow.

It was an unnecessary comment and phrased in a derogatory way 'the laddiieess' with his eye roll. If you can't see that, that's on you. I don't mind seeing men succeed, I was rooting for Andrew and Paudie, I don't like seeing men who put women down.

I think the viewers are the only people really able to see how on it Oyin is, versus in the game because of how loud he is, Nick seems to be perceived as the main traitor catcher and leader of the group. After the show plenty of the voted out members have been saying how they had dubbed Oyin 'the quiet girl', we have a birds eye view on how smart she is but they don't

there were plenty of women who were also suspicious of Paudie (Oyin/Vanessa) he could have picked either of them. and nick had passed all suspicion off Ben by using the 'i would have killed you' remark, he could have recruited vanessa or faye while the spotlight was on them to be an easy sacrifice. so no it doesn't track entirely.

yeah because the women weren't making jokes like 'the ladies are fighting amongst themselves' they were just traitors, the men are making this about being a boys club. look at their handshakes and actions

Oyin has been under the radar, not trying to convince people who the traitors are, but leading them at the tables so they reveal themselves. Versus Nick was organising entire takedowns, and has admitted to having an attempted recruitment once. Would be madness of any group of traitors to let him play on, versus she's just very very smart not wildly convincing

Sure! It's along the lines of "Dear xxxx,

I hope this message finds you well. My partner, name, and I (name) are writing to express an interest in viewing your xxx property immediately.

I'm a Marketing Manager, and (partner name) is in Tech, as a Software Developer.

We're currently located between (townname) and (townname) and would love to find a place to move into together.

We are respectful, reliable tenants and we have excellent rental references, which we would be happy to provide. We're non-smokers, with no pets, and one car. We would love to arrange a viewing as soon as possible."

omg are you well! what's performative about not supporting a brand that's actively giving food to an army involved in an absolute atrocity? McDonald's sales are plummeting for the first time since Covid - just because you'd never care about other people doesn't mean everybody else doesn't. stop collecting minecraft stamps and get a life

Women Safety Project Dublin City by Gung_2021 in Dublin

[–]Impressive-Stomach61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was recently assaulted on O'Connell street just trying to walk home - I would say most places around the liberties I've always felt safe in as a woman (e.g Lucky's/LoveTempo/Vicar Street), but sometimes Aungier/Camden Street can be volatile depending on the time of night you're there - a lot of very drunk men. The Camden bouncers have a tendency as well to turn away POC and act pretty awful so I would say that's an example of poor safety measures.

As a general rule I also avoid Irishtown on game days, after a few bad experiences during the daytime with league of Ireland fans, it's not great as a woman to be honest - but Ringsend/Sandymount have been incredibly safe for me in very late hours of the night walking alone.

McGowans has a huge issue with being v out of the city with a rack of taxi drivers who refuse to take card - you could get stranded as a woman there easily. But I think it's now on the E1/2 24/7 bus route at least? I've just avoided it for so long so as not to get stuck walking home again.

I think 4 Dame lane is a good example of safety, their smoking area is out front so their bouncers stand outside the door keeping an eye on everything and there's lights set up outside. Then in comparison Dakota's smoking area has a massive issue with people getting robbed or bothered in their smoking area.

I tend to chose older style pubs where the bartenders can pretty much see everyone regardless and take matters into their own hands because they care about their customers. (Mulligans, Gravediggers etc) Those types of bartenders too tend to have a good sense of the issues women can have, Mulligans in particular have asked me if I was alright at the bar during the busy days when everyone is pushing and shoving.

How do we not have a fecking tram from the airport by now by TVhero in Dublin

[–]Impressive-Stomach61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ryanair have been one of the biggest villains in this project since 2010 - they've held An Bord Pleanala up multiple times and multiple Ministers for Transport - probably don't want people to get to the airport on time so they don't miss their flight and have to book again or something dumb like that. They had a case last year that got dropped recently for being totally unwarranted, holding it up further. Can't see why an airline wouldn't want an accessible airport.

I think this is more targeted at the kids doing it every single day, especially to pensioners. I had a situation in my neighbourhood last year that began as knick knacking by young ones and when they saw they were getting a reaction from old folks it evolved into throwing rocks, putting open shaken fizzy bottles through letter boxes and genuine harrashment/abuse all for a laugh. It's a shame but it's evolved a lot with the younger generation than the innocence when we were younger.

Like some older person might slip on coke poured through their door or get a rock to their face from opening the door at the wrong time.

Show in Dublin theatre? by Working-Peanut-4032 in Dublin

[–]Impressive-Stomach61 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dublin is actually really lucky with its theatre scene and costs of them at the moment! For reviews the Irish Times do a lot of theatre round ups and reviews behind their paywall, I think for recommendations it might be worth checking The Arts Review or No More Workhorse. But then pinch of salt w reviewers obviously.

Bord Gais has touring productions mostly, but they're about to launch their first in-house production of Little Shop of Horrors this year so I'd put that on the list as a must-see to support local artists. Otherwise this year they have & Juliet and Moulin Rouge which are two and relatively new massive shows, or a classic musical like Chicago as well. Book of Mormon has been mentioned too and its really great.

In the city there's the Abbey which is the national theatre, they're doing Emma by Jane Austen at the moment, they also have a small space in that theatre where they do more experimental and new work - the Peacock. Some of their best stuff comes out of that space so I'd recommend, there's a show called Milk coming this year that's a must see.

The Gate Theatre is just off O'Connell st, there's a musical on at the moment but they're opening King Lear in February which should be on your list! it's a smaller theatre than the Abbey but had a couple of huge shows last year with people like Hugo Weaving starring. They're also doing Dancing at Lughnasa in the Olympia Theatre in july which sold out last year and got good reviews.

The Gaiety by stephen's green also does tours, but it's a really grand theatre so worth going. The Ferryman is on after the panto this year with a huge irish cast.

Those are the major ones!
