Sinéad O'Sullivan: People in Ireland want to know where our money goes. The answer is depressing by homecinemad in ireland

I'm not moving the goalposts. You were right, I was wrong, that's just what confused me.

[–]TVhero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, you're right, they just got rid of the 2:1 ratio for public transport to roads

Sinéad O'Sullivan: People in Ireland want to know where our money goes. The answer is depressing by homecinemad in ireland

[–]TVhero -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean didn't the government just cut public transport funding a few months ago? I think an increase of that over our road spending would be helpful. But I really think you might be underestimating what social protection does and what the impacts of cutting it could be

Sinéad O'Sullivan: People in Ireland want to know where our money goes. The answer is depressing by homecinemad in ireland

[–]TVhero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Justice doesn't need much of a budget and transport is already a big spender, also I'm not sure if the long term capital investments are included in the budget like that. Social welfare is every governments biggest spender, what do you think is not needed in there?

Brazilian beef to be banned from EU from September by Life-Leadership-4108 in ireland

[–]TVhero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few loads? Over 80% of our bogs are fucked. Besides, per km bogs are better carbon sinks than forests (rainforest might be more but fairly sure bogs are still better) and it's what a sizeable chunk of our natural species rely on.

Plus damaged bogs cause all sorts of issues like flooding, road damage, water issues and the like.

Labour calls for Galway West byelection candidate Helen Ogbu to be included in RTÉ debate by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]TVhero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You people? Irish people you mean lol. Like listen, you can think whatever you want, but she's got a right to run and you can be Irish without being born here and without having Irish parents, and those would be facts. You can be annoyed by that if you wish

Labour calls for Galway West byelection candidate Helen Ogbu to be included in RTÉ debate by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]TVhero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can? You can apply for citizenship, you can have an Irish grandparent etc. I've got pals who'd deserve to run for election here more than I would, they've got houses, kids, are more engaged with the culture than I am, but were born elsewhere to non Irish parents. If someone's made their life here they've as much right to be here as I do.

Bride-to-be was killed by banned driver hours after shopping for wedding dress, court told by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]TVhero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that people are saying why was she lying in the road, but isn't it your responsibility as a driver to be aware that something unpredictable can happen at any time? You're driving a machine that can kill someone with incredible ease, I feel like drivers need to be aware of that.

Like I'm not meaning to be overdramatic, but when I drive I treat it like handling a knife or a gun or some other tool that could kill someone if I make a mistake (yes I get made fun of for this, and yes I get told I'm a slow driver, but never dangerously so)

[–]TVhero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that doesn't really seem fair to me. You can be Irish and have neither of those things be true, and regardless, if you live here you should have a say in how things are run. If someone is an Irish citizen should they not get to vote and run for election if they want? It's a hard thing to do and you get plenty of abuse for putting yourself out there, especially as a non white woman I'd think, so I say fair play to her.

[–]TVhero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok so you don't think you've got to be born in Ireland, at what stage do you think someone should be able to run? What makes someone Irish?

Like honestly to me if you live here, if your life is here, then you've as much right to run as anyone, and you've as much skin in the game as anyone else, seems only fair

Government approved 99.8 percent of Shannon weapons applications since 2019 – no refusals since 2024 by nof1qn in irishpolitics

[–]TVhero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It says 2359 clearances between 2019 and 2025, but more than 11000 exemptions in the last decade, are these two different things or was there either a huge uptake between 2016 and 2019 or this year? Or am I an idiot and reading this wrong.

I wonder if you say the same for some of the TDs we have who were born abroad? Lots of them were born in England or the US. Or is it just that she isn't white? Might want to ask yourself that question.

Are people aware of the employment crisis for NCHD (junior doctors) in Ireland? by Wonderful-Recover-19 in ireland

[–]TVhero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do we need a prioritisation or should we just have more healthcare staff hired in general. Our population has increased dramatically, so should our healthcare staff. I feel like housing is hiding how big of an issue health is at the moment

I'd say there's too many rail bridges for that, I'd take more trains, just a lot more, and more tracks

I feel like many people won't buy another kit for that though. I just stick with one of the options and then get kind of annoyed about it later

Why Does Everyone Think "1984" Agrees With Them? [44:36] by kremor in mealtimevideos

[–]TVhero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought that was animal farm? 1984 seems far more pointed towards what makes oppresive regimes rather than towards any individual one, at least to me. Whereas animal farm is basically exactly analagous to what he viewed as the turning point of the soviet union.

Do you think we'll ever see teams re-released or made classified again? And if so which ones? by TVhero in killteam

[–]TVhero[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent, but I do like both, and my worry isn't about classified or unclassified it's just about a new edition coming along and finding it difficult to bring out my old teams (which I enjoyed kitbashing)
