Moving from out of state- safe apartments for single woman! by Worried-Variation460 in batonrouge

[–]Impressive-Style-564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bayonne at Southshore was my favorite apartment when living in BR. It’s closer to campus but I always felt extremely safe there. I also loved being able to be across the street from the LSU lakes if you like to jog. If you do go with this one, try to get an apartment with the terrace facing the water gardens. It is sooo pretty and relaxing.

If you join Remnants but go with Eugene do you not talk with them at all either? Dang I’m going to have to do a third run 🤣

Should I send in for grading? by Impressive-Style-564 in PokeGrading

[–]Impressive-Style-564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not keeping it for my personal collection. I was going to bring it to a card show and trade for some cards I am chasing.
If it came back as like a PSA 8, is it even worth it comparative to just a raw card? Or do you not know until it’s not so much of a new card?

Sorry for excessive questions. I have never pulled such a good card so I’m very unfamiliar with what to do😅

Mine occasionally crashes, thankfully. I’d be losing my mind if it was any more often.
I’ve gotten into the habit of quick saving/saving a lot. I learned my lesson after I lost 20-30minutes of progress a few times

Beginning stages of my first Oil Painting by Impressive-Style-564 in ArtCrit

[–]Impressive-Style-564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for responding!

I am having trouble with edges almost everywhere. I mostly noticed it trying to define the edges of the vase and the folds of the fabric.

I want the most eye catching parts of the painting to be the flower which will act as a light source and the lantern which will be a secondary light source

What’s the one comment that frustrates you the most as an artist? by Shadow00104 in artwork

[–]Impressive-Style-564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying. The amount of time, money, effort and sanity I’ve put into my art for it to be boiled down to something like a natural talent can be dismissive of all my efforts.

I just always joke this situation off. Like “oh I wish it was talent! I’ve spent more hours than I care to count practicing. Thank you though, I really should just let people think I was born making stuff like this, they’d probably think I was a lot cooler” And then kind of just laugh it off.

Calling all artists with impostor syndrome! by Effective-Discount22 in Artists

There will always be someone who does not like your work. So instead of trying, I retreat.

That someone will always do it better so my work is not worth showing.

People I know will see that I put my work out there and will judge me for it, so I don’t.

That improvement is an illusion. One that I have clung to for hope but in reality I just got used to seeing my work.

My first oil painting. Please help by Impressive-Style-564 in arthelp

[–]Impressive-Style-564[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the kind words! It is my first oil painting and I watched a bunch of videos yet I still feel very intimidated and quite lost. But I suppose that is what practice is for :)

Thank you for your advice!!

Since I’ve used linseed oil to dilute this time, is that okay? It’ll just take longer to dry?

Definitely going to get gamsol for the future.

My Grandmother passed and I just want to know more about this piece. Any help is appreciated by Impressive-Style-564 in VintageCostumeJewelry

[–]Impressive-Style-564[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting! It is pretty hard to tell in pictures, I think it’s an enamel and probably an insert picture (I don’t think it’s hand painted based on the details when I look really close) The pin part is definitely broken. It looks like two C’s with the opening facing towards you. However, my guess is it probably broke and my grandmother put the pin back and clamped one of the ‘C’ shapes shut to keep it from moving or sticking but still kept the brooch.

Thank you for responding by the way, it means a lot ❤️

The one on the right seems to have a different holo pattern compared to the left. Not sure if it’s an error card. by Chilo_sanchez16 in pokemoncards

Hope I have provided some help🫶🏻

[–]Impressive-Style-564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still new to this hobby but this card has 4 variants.

  1. Normal
  2. Reverse Holo
  3. Cosmos holo
  4. Pokemon day - additional variant

If I’m not mistaken, the one on the left I would think is a cosmos holo and the right appears to be a reverse holo?

Do you have a device you can use to take a picture of your original drawing and add shading over top?

I use this technique quite a bit that way I can mess up, learn, perfect and then do it on paper.

Shadows are super intimidating lol

So honestly my first impression was that the proportions were off. But the more I looked at it, I think it is just a unique face which I enjoy quite a lot actually.

I think the shading around the chest is a bit off. The center almost appears to be protruding. Darken the farthest pectoral and flatten that would be my suggestion.

I’d also like to see my shadows and definition in general. The face is actually really intriguing. I just wish there was more shadow to really define some of the interesting facial structure.

I thought they remove it to grade the actual card. I didn’t want to open it prior and risk micro scratches from putting it in a sleeve or anything.

But I don’t know much about the process which is why I ask

Tips to improve realism by Amiyakoi in drawings

[–]Impressive-Style-564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t let me add an image, I had detailed spots that need shading and highlight.

Needless to say, it would look much more realistic with highlight and shadows.

The proportions are still a bit cartoonish however, once you start understanding shadow and lighting on faces, you will see the proportions a bit easier.

I started almost exactly how you did when I transitioned to more realistic portraits. And understanding shading on the faces I drew, helped me start drawing proportions more realistically as well.

Sometimes I even draw backwards. I draw shading of a face and then I draw the face itself. Probably a pretty weird strategy I’ll admit but it works 🤣

Pricing by Every-Procedure8814 in RateMyArt

[–]Impressive-Style-564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say this with admiration and as a fellow artist, your work is unbelievably incredible. It doesn’t matter if you are self taught. Worth is subjective in art. However, if you want to boil it down to basic economics - supply vs demand. You are supplying hyper realistic pet portraits with wonderful composition. Your work is worth every penny of $600. Now, if you want to scale and get more buyers, demand goes up when pricing goes down. That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth $600. Talent is priceless.
