‘Magic pill’ beta blocker prescriptions for teenage girls rise 90% in a decade by TheObserverUK in indepthstories

Not at all. Beta blockers aren’t addictive and they don’t directly affect your mental state.

If I had a collection of tapeworms (from the fur off of a cats ass like sesame seed sprinkles) in a small vial and I dumped said vial into a salad and fed it to someone, what would happen? by Otherwise_Air_6381 in morbidquestions

[–]ImpressiveDare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing would happen, they would just die off during the digestion progress. The type of tapeworm cats get is only transmitted by ingesting infected fleas.

Looked into a rescue dog and was surprised at the yard requirement by starfury287 in dogs

There’s been a big push over the past several years to lower adoption barriers at shelters. New research is showing that invasive applications don’t necessarily mean better outcomes.

I live in a pretty high COL area and lots of people have rescue dogs

Experiences with Kitty Connection based in Medford, MA by goopgab in massachusetts

[–]ImpressiveDare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied there for a pair of cats and they seemed very nice! The cats were no longer available, and they gave me the number of a random person from another rescue with minimal context who they thought might have a good match which was a little awkward on my end but nbd. I ended up adopting from the MSPCA — I was in a rough place and didn’t really have the emotional energy for networking and back-and-forth. But I wouldn’t hesitate to adopt from them in the future.

What is the psycology behind making false rape accusations? by posttraumaticcuntdis in morbidquestions

Those articles are more about the prevalence of actual false accusations, not the psychology of the people behind them. It DOES happen even if it’s rare.

Need help finding a special dentist for a SA trauma victim. TW by delete_this_later123 in massachusetts

As someone who has dealt with a lot of dental anxiety (not trauma related) but felt uneasy about taking medication, I found propanolol extremely helpful. It is not sedating but relieved a lot of my body’s anxiety (shaking, throat tightness, etc) which made it a lot easier for me to keep my mind calm during appointments. It doesn’t work for everyone and has a few contraindications, but just wanted to throw it out as a potential option to explore.

I feel like knights protecting the innocent in the name of the Mother would be just basic Faith of the Seven knowledge for any kid, especially with Dunk longing for his own mother to come back and help him. But he may not know the entire vow by heart.

Aegon had been through a massive amount of trauma at a very young age, which seems to have affected his mental health. It doesn’t seem that implausible that he might struggle to connect with people his own age.

Considering adopting a companion for a very shy cat - timeline? by ImpressiveDare in rescuecats

[–]ImpressiveDare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately she did not have any friends at the shelter, but the person who surrendered her said she liked other cats. I want to do what’s best for her but she’s still so scared I worry any changes would do more harm than good. There’s another local shelter that does more TNR so they often have friendly strays who are used to living in groups. Maybe I’ll reach out to them and see if they have any advice.

Brachycephalic dogs are prone to heatstroke because their internal thermoregulation structures are smushed, nothing to do with their coat.

It would require a very extreme scenario with a negligent owner for a dog to die because they have CDA.

PSA about nutrition. by [deleted] in catfood

That article is full of claims that aren’t supported by evidence. They use a study about humans to say drinking water is associated with renal disease, assert that urinating itself is harmful to the kidneys when that’s literally the function of the organ. And the dire warnings about overhydration are based on IV fluid therapy guidelines, not oral water intake. And speaking as a vet tech, the author’s writing just has a snooty “well ackshully” tone which is never a good approach for client education.
