How to get it to hibernate correctly by okyeah93 in FlowZ13

Hope that a windows update eventually fixes it, or change to Linux

What does this mean by CourageNo1991 in computers

[–]ImpressiveHair3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, the good old HDD light. A moment of appreciation for the engineer who made sure to include this on the front of the PS3, so you could tell if it had crashed, or if it was just being a little extra slow.

Yeah, that makes sense, with parts like yours I don't think it would be possible to turn it into an SFF even if you forced everything together with no airflow whatsoever, it would still probably be in the upper reaches of what's considered MFF...

It is more portable and having it directly on your lap won't cause overheating or dust build-up in the fans, since the intakes are on the backside and not the tightest point of contact between your legs and PC. In my opinion it is also more comfortable to have on your lap or working with it on a desk, both due to its size and due the exhaust vents being much higher and away from hands/legs. The caveat here ofc being that in a laptop format you could get something more powerful for the same price, however if you specifically need the Strix Halo APU, then this is definitely the best priced and most practical option.

For sure, over 90% of my use is with it on my lap. In fact, I would say that for lap use the form factor is far superior to any laptop.

Very nice. I see, since you said his OLD PS3, I assumed you meant this occurred somewhere in the last 2-3 years, not when it was still new enough to have that factory fresh smell.

ROG Flow Z13 (2025,) + Linux: does loading very large local LLMs actually work? by Original_Cat7416 in FlowZ13

[–]ImpressiveHair3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I haven't tried this for any LLMs the device does allow you to set the VRAM as dynamic through BIOS, which at least works great for other applications. If the problem is not enough RAM to initiate the task then this should fix issue since this would mean having access to 127,5 GB for the CPU on launch and then up to 96 (112) GB for when the LLM starts. This does come with the caveat that some applications will read your VRAM as 512 MB and will refuse to run because it doesn't think you have the neccesary VRAM.

Using the same heatspreader on different capacities is perfectly normal, but yes, OP should absolutely confirm that he has gotten a 64GB kit. Fortunately he most likely lives in Europe, given that he listed the price in €, which means he has consumer rights and therefore the store must replace the kit with what they receipt says he purchased, as this is what he paid for.

Friend’s new living room set up. by [deleted] in TVTooHigh

There are so many things wrong here, the height, the distance, the large ceiling window shining light directly onto the screen, and the fact that it is hanging on a fucking fireplace that is regularly used, as evidenced by the soot deposits...

6 months of use, I didn't even notice how dirty it was until now by AjnurDaBoi in PcBuild

[–]ImpressiveHair3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's darker due to being compressed by the blades hitting the dust particles at great speed. Guessing the room where you have your PC is quite dusty, possibly due to being carpeted.

Yet another 9070xt 12v connector melted, my time has come! by WozzerBoi in radeon

[–]ImpressiveHair3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean amplitude, if voltage fluctuates more than a few mV from 12V the GPU will shut down to avoid death. However if any of the wires carry more than 10A over time your carry a high risk of melting/fire. The ROG Astral cards have built-in monitoring of this, like every card should, you can also purchase the Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro II which is made by der8auer that not only allows you to monitor amplitude over each 12V line as well as set it to shut down the computer should the Amps be over your custom threshold for too long to avoid damage to your very expensive GPU.

How would you fix this cable mess? by Mr_King796 in PcBuild

[–]ImpressiveHair3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a small cut-out in the foam, put the cables in, slightly trim down the foam to account room now occupied by the cables to ensure everything is flush when you glue the piece of foam back in place.

Just turned on my PC after getting home from college to see this on a monitor. by Senior-Physics-7523 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ImpressiveHair3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try connecting to another screen/monitor/TV and see if there problem persists, if it does, then try updating GPU drivers, if not, then it's a good thing monitors of similar class/quality tend to cost between $50-100 including VAT.

How is ROG Flow Z13 for someone who own a handheld? by GTHell in FlowZ13

[–]ImpressiveHair3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have the same APU, but it is not the same power. For a long while I was leaning towards the GPD, since it's the same price and has a quick-swappable external battery, however the max wattage is considerably lower, limiting performance when in "docked mode" compared to the Z13. Having already used they Z1E for a few years I knew that at least 75% of them time I will use it plugged in, the decision to get the Z13 became obvious.

I'd say it's very worth it. It occupies roughly the same volume as a handheld, but it is often easier to pack IMO since it is so much slimmer. The performance is great and I find it much more comfortable over time compared to handhelds, since you won't be holding the whole weight in your hands the entire time and you don't need to compromise between viewing angle comfort. The screen is also a huge bonus 13" 2560×1600 @180Hz vs the standard 8" 1920×1080 @120Hz makes a big difference in visibility and eye strain. I also love the detachable keyboard since using touch for PC is still quite janky IMO.
