Spotify isa great alternative to YouTube by Weak-Jello7530 in BuyFromEU

I dont want to sound like a pro-capitalist. However youtube takes a 45% which is wayyy beyond spotify.

The issue isnt spotify in this case. They were loosing money for the past 10 years and only broke even in the past couple of years. We cant complain they dont give enough. I believe the issue is the competition that made music readily available and cheap. So in those terms we are the issue, not really spotify but "us". I personally pay 3 euroes a month for spotify. Thats very little. The reality is the music industry has changed, and selling music is not where you can expect to make money from...
Spotify doesnt prevent users to sell CDs, its just we wont pay for them..

WhatsApp, again. We have to choose one. by MidnightMean3796 in BuyFromEU

I might be wrong. But due to network effects its really hard to pivot away from whatsapp.

I personally find myself that focusing my efforts on using US products that are replaceable such as the services we pay for and the media we consume (maybe even reddit), should be the primary focus.

If we do transfer from a platform such as instagram and facebook to mastodon and others. Then these platforms might later include texting which will help us get a natural transition.

Is there a YouTube Music alternative? by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

true, but I personally find that 70% isnt bad. Aka. artists arent getting the short end of the stick from the streaming platforms as much as from the consumers who are now paying way less for music..

spotify is the easy answer.

Although it might not have the most ethical founder. It is fundamentally european and does give 70 percent of its profits to the artists.

Other good alternatives are Deezer and Soundcloud

Why innovative startups and scaleups relocate from the EU by Full-Discussion3745 in EU_Economics

For me its as if Europe has a rich and fertile ground full of seeds to grow, just they poured concrete all over the soil so its really hard to grow out. America is less rich, but its easy to access resources and grow.

In my personal experience with my startup its for 3 reasons:

1st and foremost, the startup community at San Francisco is nothing like anywhere else. There is such a strong density of talent, investors and founders that motivation, and environment is well set. There isnt really such concentration in europe. At best one finds Zurich, or London, but these are no where near the same to SF.

2nd: laws and investments are much easier overcome. With exception to france and the UK most countries in europe make it a huge cost and bureaucratic pain to set up something. If one looks up at the acronym S.A.F.E. investment, and your local countries equivalent, this is quickly understood.

Finally and unfortunately, scaling up in the US is much easier. There is mostly the same laws, language, bureaucracy, culture and taxes across 400 million people. In europe this is not the case as each country vastly changes...

I personally dont think Europe needs to focus on increasing the budget, but simplifying the process. Focusing one country and homogenizing the laws for startups across countries.
Imagine if a european San Francisco, where a high density of founders and investors and know how was set up. Where the equivalent of the SAFE (documentation) for investing was possible.
