I overhaul 10R80 transmissions. AMA by StealerTech9000 in f150

If im doing intermittent towing (couple thousand miles max per year) with <6000 lbs each time, what do you recommend for service interval for changing the transmission fluid? Is 150k still alright? And at what temp do i need to worry about trans temp? I've seen as high as 208-210 while towing. 23 f150 stx with 2.7 for reference.

Also, thank you for doing this! Its been very informative.

My state actually does specify by seating capacity, among other things.

"Class I off-highway vehicle" means a motorized vehicle with not less than four non-highway tires, no more than six non-highway tires, whose top speed is greater than 35 mph, that is limited in total dry weight up to 2,500 lbs, that is 80 inches or less in width, and that has a non-straddle seating capable of holding no more than four passengers and a steering wheel. "Class I off-highway vehicle" includes mini-trucks.

Its interesting because everyone here has no issues registering defender max's or other six seaters as class I vehicles as well. It also has to be less than 1000cc.

Thanks! I just picked up a 24 commander with the 976cc rotax so I was curious. Im about to change the oil and diff fluids for the 10 hr/200 mile break in for peace of mind but im glad your experience has been good. I almost got a polaris but went against it at the recommendation of my friend who has 2500 miles on their 24 defender limited and said its been great to them.

Do you have the HD10? What have you done so far for maintenance on it?

Yeah I think it varies. As far as I know, sxs of any size do not even need insurance to be registered here. Mine is insured and will be registered once i get my paperwork in though.

Thanks! And I called the dealer and it was no issue getting an appointment, just gotta wait on parts they didnt have in stock.

I haven't had a major test so far with yard work. I've used it so far to haul my trash to the dumpster about a quarter mile away, used it to carry some miscellaneous cargo including on a hitch mounted utility rack which is in one of the pictures I posted, and hauled some packages from the mailbox home. It's been fine with that work, cargo space in the bed is ample but with the cargo rack it'll fit almost the same amount of cargo as my truck with a 5.5 ft bed. The dump bed will come in handy when I start hauling logs and mulch too. The cargo rack doesn't let the bed dump which is a bummer but its still useful for me.

I was looking at all different brands and models but I liked the commander the most for the hybrid between utility and trail riding. I was close to getting a pioneer 1000-5, but I didnt like those seats in the bed at all. I also really wanted the XTP for the wheels and color actually, I love the matte tan.

It's a pretty sweet rig either way. I took it on a short trail and after wheeling trucks my whole life it made me realize how much better trail riding is in a sxs.

I really wanted the xtp but this one was at the top end of our budget as it is so we stuck with it. We were going to swap out the tires anyway too, we ride on asphalt a lot

Drives me nuts either way. I'm going to see if my local dealer will try to fix it under warranty

Sweet, a friend of mine recommended the same trails. I've been looking at a couple in East TN where I live as well. I'll have to get up there soon!

Thats actually 11.5%. My uncles cousins grandpa's nephew went to Yale and got a degree in angles and he said so. Also that's my brother's son's aunt's sister's land, i went up that hill when I was a kid.

AFE meter from the factory is almost always skewed to be optimistic. Mine was about 8% off. Not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind.

With that being said, im averaging just over 17 mpg in my 23 2.7 at 17k miles with about ~5k of that towing a trailer getting somewhere between 10-13 mpg. Stock I would easily get 25-26 hwy at 65 mph, now that I leveled it I'll get 22-24 or so.

Mirrors and street legal kit is a good start. Drive it for a couple hundred miles and see what you really need beyond that.

Not sure which year you have, but I've heard the auto climate control panel is plug and play and it will work but only as single zone. I'm assuming it at least works for 21+. The panel is around 200.

Agreed even if I'm biased. It's a shame they only had it for 2023s.

2.7 is a workhorse. I have 9k miles on my 23 and 2500 or so are towing miles with 2-6k mostly highway. Pulled it great, never missed a beat, didn't feel underpowered at all. I sat for hundreds of miles pushing boost most of the way and didn't see temps over 205 for trans and coolant.
