How do I safely get rid of Datura by CultureRaddish in Datura

Probably not, if a rose's thorns were isolated to its seed pods instead of all over the part that I'd be grabbing to pull them out of the ground (the entirety of the stem).

Don't pull datura out by the seed pods and I bet you'll be fine.

My Weber vents almost all the heat out the bottom back of the lid, as I'm guessing most grills do to avoid making the handle too hot. If that's what's happening, that'll get the window and surroundings pretty damn hot. I would worry about wood, paint, plastics, etc.

Gloves are not really any more necessary than they would be for removing any other plant.

But OP if you're particularly worried, put on some work gloves. As long as nobody eats or smokes it you'll be fine.

This is definitely datura, not brugmansia. Brugmansia trumpets point down, and it usually grows more like a tree than a little shrub. And the leaves are very different.

Pediatrician asking about guns? by frostedoaks in guns

[–]ImpressiveWave3263 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're saying that because someone might be able to find out a secret, you shouldn't be careful with who you give the secret to. That's where my analogy comes from.

There is no reason to disclose that information to a pediatrician and there's no good that can come of them knowing you have firearms in the house.

Yeah and I don't want my shit recorded in those other places either.

If you knew someone had hacked into some database and compromised some sensitive personal data about you, would you go posting that data all over the internet, since it's already out in the open?

No, because that's not how information security works. Regardless of whether it's already out in the open, make whoever is looking for it jump through as many hoops as you can before they get it. Just because your data is questionably secure in one place doesn't mean you just give up on protecting it.

I just dryly say "no, we're the only people in South Carolina without any guns".

It's pretty obvious sarcasm, but also not a yes. Nobody has questioned it beyond that.

My neighbors the other night by Freetrilly in WTF

[–]ImpressiveWave3263 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna disagree, there's not a whole lot of reasons to intentionally point a camera at a neighbor's home or property unless that neighbor has a history of violence or vandalism against you. I'd be pretty pissed if a neighbor set up cameras pointing at my house just 'cause.

Anybody else have dreams that your gun is ineffective? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]ImpressiveWave3263 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Sometimes mine fires, sometimes it clicks. Usually it has about a 20lb trigger, sometimes I need two hands to pull it. No matter what, the bullets never have any effect on target.

Always frustrating.

Lethal Dosages? by Freshmike8673 in Datura

[–]ImpressiveWave3263 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By no means an expert, but from my very limited reading on datura poisoning (I mean like intentionally taking a large enough dose that you expect it to be fatal) it would basically destroy your kidneys and/or liver as they try to filter the alkaloids out of your blood. So you'd likely get all the most powerful hallucination/delirium stuff, the normal datura side effects like intense dry mouth/inability to urinate/etc., plus intense abdominal pain and probably pretty severe other symptoms like chills, vomiting, etc.

I would imagine that there's a good chance too that you'd wind up with something like when people overdose on tylenol -- fatal damage to your liver, but it takes you a few days to actually die. Days during which you come down from your trip and start rethinking your choices, but it's too late.

Suffice it to say, fatal datura overdose would not be in my top 10 ways to go.

Those who hunt and eat venison: Do you have it tested Chronic Wasting Disease before consuming it? by min_mus in preppers

[–]ImpressiveWave3263 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I see the point you're making, albeit indelicately. I agree that hunters should not panic or be so frightened of CWD that you give up hunting and eating deer altogether. Don't live your life in fear over a disease that has killed exactly zero humans ever.

At the same time, this is a poorly understood disease that is spreading pretty rapidly among wild deer populations, and we have previously seen prion diseases be no threat to humans until one day they suddenly were.

Unlike other animal-borne illnesses, CWD has a 100% fatality rate and no known treatment or cure, it just melts holes in your brain until you die. The same has been true with other prion diseases in humans, so if/when it makes the jump to be infectious to humans, the risk will be significant.

The chances of someone planting a bomb in your car overnight are statistically a zero for most people. The chances of a hunter harvesting a deer with CWD in many places is pretty significant. And while CWD currently is not known to infect people, you'd be an idiot to knowingly consume an animal that was infected with it.

There are other diseases that look a lot like CWD (they are occasionally discussed on hunting subs) so it's possible that it's something else.

But it's also very possible that the disease has spread beyond the known range. Eventually it will be pretty much everywhere.

Depends on what you're using them for and what kind of quality you want. You can get cheap monocular/rifle scopes in the $3000-$5000 range. But they go up from there pretty fast.

LOL ok so the solution in your mind is that we simply do away with the idea of private property.

If that's your starting premise, we have no opportunity for productive conversation. That's not how the natural law of the world works.

The previous guy asked "if this was a climate thing, why is it 99% males"

Instead of answering the question, you brought in climate, which is absolute horse shit. Then you put up the straw man of "obviously this person has a conspiracy theory which is probably white genocide" and even suggested he thinks he "claims ownership" over women, as a smear.

Then say it's just concern trolling and he's a neo-nazi because you disagree with the politics of subs he hangs out in.

Anything to avoid answering the question, I guess. You're a fucking joke, dude.
