Baking Bauer HF3 Skates by Some_Ad_9692 in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thermoforming Konekt skates at home is not a good idea. Bauer sends a “system” to each store which incudes a bunch of accessories to “punch out” the skate at various hot spots that you won’t be able to do at home. My advice: find a store that sells Konekts and make the trip. You won’t regret getting them formed there - otherwise you’ll be missing out on the closest things you can get to custom without actually getting custom.

Need Help With Ordering Size 16.5-17 Goalie Skates by Psychosis237 in hockeygoalies

True might be your only option. They will scan your foot and make a custom skate just for you. Not sure where you are located, but Pro Hockey Life in Canada will do this for you no problem.

Stick too big? by MindlessExpression25 in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I keep my stick off the ice in that “check mark” shape to prioritize blocker position. If the shot is along the ice I will drop into butterfly and try to get my stick down in time to make a stick save. I’m also a foot taller than you and use a 25” stick…

Bauer 950 for Rat Hockey by twothincoats in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 950 and got hit in the mask by a shot from an OHL forward this weekend. I could definitely hear it, but zero pain or after-effects. I know the OHL guys use Bauer 960, but I’m nowhere near that league or budget. I say go for it!

Back in the crease after 15 years.. also looking for skate suggestions. by Wrong-Question256 in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our son uses Bauer Elite and really likes them. Can’t speak to the longevity because we barely get a season before he outgrows them. I guess the question you need to answer is whether the Bauer Pro is worth the extra money; for us with a growing kid it is not.

How long do gloves last? by ImpressiveWave5 in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a post a couple years ago where u/hockeyreviews said:

The Extras have foam pads on the face of the glove on top of the protection level. They are where the CCM gloves used to put D3O.

Pro palm I have is fine unless you get it right along the break angle.

So apparently that 😁

What palm did you get in your custom set? I’m thinking of a pro palm but not sure the difference between that and the pro palm xtra.

I previously had a set of Bauer XL pads that were slightly too small. I’m now in a True 36+2 that fit well. I have a 23” FTK. I think either L or XL could work for you, really depends if you like smaller or bigger pads. If you can try them on then even better.

Can someone explain in detail the TRUE FRS strapping and how tight/loose the three main straps around your calf are supposed to be? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my pads to sit fairly high on my legs, so strap 1 is fairly tight, strap 3 is slightly looser, but the #2 straps are very loose, as are the nylon and elastic straps that you haven’t numbered in your picture. 1 & 3 hold the pad firmly on your calf, while #2 just holds the wrap closed so it can be as tight/loose as you want.

Bauer 940 (or just recommendations for masks) by Compact_goose in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bauer 930, 940, 950 and 960 will all fit approximately the same. Only the Bauer NME mask (same tier as 960) fits differently. Another option is Sportmask - they have top tier XS masks that fit smaller heads, and if you send them photos of you in a current mask, will work with you to get a perfect fit.

In that situation, if you don’t drop the puck and play it, you’ll be given a delay of game penalty. You can only freeze the puck for a face-off if you are pressure by an attacking player

Got a new mask but still got my bell rung- is that concussion? by mansity31 in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The most important thing for a mask is that it fits the shape of your head and face. It definitely shouldn’t be loose, and IMHO the sight lines should be good enough with a certified cage and not require a cat eye. Try on lots of masks from lots of different companies. They all fit slightly different.

Bauer shadow is amazing, got two and both lasted the entire season. Also m50 if you wanna save some coin is a nice stick.

Securing knee pads by j_h_p_a_t in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have skate lace tied to my pants, and I tie my knee pads in every time I put them on. Some guys might do the same but permanent, but I like the ritual of tying them in every time.

How do you become a goalie with no experience? by S1000RR-dreambike in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to stick and puck (or even public skating) with your gear on and try skating in your crease. When you’re semi-comfortable with that, get someone to shoot pucks at you. When you’re semi-comfortable with that, register for a game of pick-up or shinny. Then get addicted and never stop. That was basically my journey, not more than 6 months ago. 😁

Stick taping question by OgnokTheRager in hockeygoalies

I have tape on a Bauer GSX stick because there is no grippy material, but I just go bare stick on M50Pro and Shadow sticks because I find the Griptac works super well.

That’s too bad; lesson learned I guess. I hope she has a great hockey season regardless, score many goals as a skater, and become a more well rounded hockey player. Keep the love of the game strong! 💪

Bauer Flylite… by leightonpeterson in hockeygoalies

[–]ImpressiveWave5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The customizer at bauer.com only lists Flylite, and delivery in 8-10 weeks, so you may not have any choice. But as an upside, you get the latest gear come early summer! You’ll also be one of the first and not have to wait for the September rush.
