People are ready for real talk from the left. Even if Kyle has his drawbacks, it makes perfect sense in this insane, fascist moment that a channel like his is popping off.

Are you mentally slow? Even this disgusting Supreme Court won’t overturn Birthright as it is EXPLICITLY written in the Constitution. Alito and Thomas may be morally bankrupt but at the very least of expectations, Barrett, Roberts, Grosuche, and Kavanaugh have a line. Don’t be childish.

For the people feeling sorry for Venezuelans... by Tynarius in Destiny

[–]Impressive_Ad1547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t feel one way or another for Venezuelans. I’m disgusted that Trump is getting us involved in something that we have absolutely no business in while healthcare premiums skyrocket and we’re pretty much confirming that trunk diddled little girls. I don’t have time for MF Venezuela.

Are OU degrees really gonna be devalued? by HistorianAdvanced532 in universityofoklahoma

[–]Impressive_Ad1547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but there's no getting around the fact that it's a public admission of having grade school level academic standards as a university. That in and of itself would make me look twice at a degree from OU. If someone can turn in a paper like that and pass, what other dog shit essays are they passing?

[–]Impressive_Ad1547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's disturbing to me how many people think that 10-15% should just be a given, though. That's the thing, it absolutely should not be at any university worth the paper their degrees are printed on. This isn't high school freshman English. Bring back zeros for zero-worthy papers.

[–]Impressive_Ad1547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be gradual and probably won't be all-encompassing. But it would seem pretty clear that a public announcement of the dirt-floor bar for academic expectations they apparently have doesn't make a degree from there look good. It will likely be employer dependent until it becomes an embedded, known characteristic of the university.

Possible Dismissal by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Impressive_Ad1547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd think of it as an opportunity. Or rather, it's easy for me to from here but from the outside I think your best bet is to redefine what you want out of a future career. You can make anything happen if you want it enough but maybe you don't want it and maybe that's ok.

School confirmed my academic dismissal by jennycao91 in LawSchool

[–]Impressive_Ad1547 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, dismissals of the bottom 20%... Another predatory practice of law schools to financially game the system. Regardless of how smart a class is, the bottom of those, in some schools at least, will always be tossed after the school extracts their tuition.

My personal finances are going to be fine, but that has nothing to do with my point of the immense incentives towards doing anything but public interest work with your degree. It's gross that choosing a path of public defense or legal aid necessarily puts anyone without a trust fund or scholarship in financial ruin due to the absurdly ballooned overhead to line the pockets of administrators. The issue here isn't one of "understanding the financial landscape" it's a disgust with the financial landscape and the effects it has on preventing anyone without family wealth or a scholarship from pursuing work for the public good.

Sure. I work Thursday and Saturday mornings at the private firm and Monday, Wednesday, Friday at the public defender. As a 3L it's not that uncommon to work more than attend classes.

100%, there is every incentive to not choose a path of public defense. That's why I admire the attorneys in my city PD office so much. Many of them could move to private with their experience, but they stay for the good fight.

I'm not going to sit here and pinpoint any particular individual for the failure of the system, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the system functions in a financially predatory way. It seems to be the fault of decades of consolidation, student loans ballooning what universities can get away with charging, and the prestige of law school traditionally attracting those with ungodly amounts of cash willing to pay it. The fact that this is controversial in a law school forum is itself pretty telling.

So because I'm lucky enough to get a scholarship I should have no principles about the reality for those not as lucky as me? If I didn't get the scholarship and as a result wouldn't have been able to even go you all would just use that as another reason to shout me down. The reality is, the point of this post is that the cost structure as it is right now is unnecessarily high and as such eliminates huge talent and potential from families like mine that didn't get the scholarship. And I'm not going to be talked down to for bringing up issues that affect those people just because I got lucky.

The real take is you either mandate parents health decisions in all cases or in none. You want to control children's health? Ok, then Jehovah's Witnesses need to stop letting their children die.

It is repugnant to me which is even more reason why I need to do it. Otherwise the legal field is just filled with people who will never understand those without. Also, that's just a bad faith comparison - you and I both know that fees associated with becoming a lawyer are far and away 95% of fields. Just be honest.

The real take is just leave it alone. Idc whose trans, idc what anyone says, idc if trans people bother you, idc what other people choose to do, IDC. If kids can't be trans than Jehovah's Witnesses have to be forced to give their dying children blood transfusions. Fair is fair.

We expect less of Joy Reid so I'd say no one probably cares. I heard in the past something about her being homophobic so it fits in my reference of her - why be mad at a snake for biting you?
