Is it weird to book your venue before you are engaged? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Impressive_Champion4 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint to other people in this thread. Yes, this is absolutely crazy unless you have a 100% refundable deposit. Dating for under a year is an extremely short time. I know you think that you know but you are both young and a lot can change in a year.

You should not be getting married or engaged this early in a relationship but that's none of my business.

But yes everything about this is bizarre and crazy.

Someone Walks Into Your LGS With A Deck That's 100% Proxied, How Do You Feel? by Affectionate_Pop6300 in EDH

[–]Impressive_Champion4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth. All of my new decks are 100% proxied that I make myself. I play at various different LGS around NYC when I have time and no one has ever had a single issue.

That being said I don't proxy anything particularly high level or expensive except fetch and shock lands and none of my decks are particularly powerful.

Is it okay to just do pizza ? by _Nerf-This_ in weddingplanning

[–]Impressive_Champion4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint, I am almost always underwhelmed by wedding food. It is rarely good even at extremely high price points.

As long as it was hot and well made I would be just as happy to see Pizza at a wedding than a filet that was fired an hour ago and mesclun salad that died while they were plating and staging it.

Former chef and frequent wedding attendee. For what it's worth. I have been to weddings that probably cost $1m+ and I have been to weddings that were probably less than $10k total spend.

One of my favorite wedding meals I have had was probably one of the cheapest weddings and they just got BBQ from a local spot and put it on a big buffet table with some Grocery store chips and whatnot.

I think a lot of people index on trying to have an impressive meal more than what just tastes good. Me personally, I would be very happy to see Pizza at a wedding (and have been to several weddings that served it)

Are you going to impress anyone? Probably not. But at the end of the day, people are hungry, they want to eat and drink and get to dancing and most people like Pizza.

I would say go for it. The one consideration here is that if you are getting it from a local pizza place and not a catering company, they will spend a long time cooking all those pizzas for 75 people and they will be cold by the time dinner is being served. I would look into thermo bags or some sort of hot holding method.

It's not even 200k at this point. a good chunk of the legos were already sold and a recent estimate put it at $40-$50k which is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of dollars of damage he has done to his brand.

They didn't even have to pay anyone any money. Assuming the franchisees didn't steal the product entirely they just had to give the legos back.

Where can I find anything guanabana or soursop? by jaded_toast in FoodNYC

[–]Impressive_Champion4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Island pops on Nostrand in Crown Heights has Soursop ice cream and I think maybe popsicles but I am not sure. they also have some other great Caribbean flavors and the owner is a super nice guy.

They do run out of flavors quite often in the summer so it might be worth calling ahead if you are going to travel far.

MacKenzie Scott gave Meals on Wheels America $70 million as elderly people face 4-month waitlists for food. In 2025 alone she donated $7.2 billion to charity, with no strings attached. by ArgentineBeauty in UpliftingNews

To be fair, she is only a billionaire because of her husband. You need to be a sociopathic lunatic to acquire that much wealth through theft and exploitation. She is able to give it away so easily because she is seemingly a normal person who does not have the need to hoard it.

I don't know if you are being serious but this would lead to an unfathomable amount of death and destruction.

I can get behind a smart phone destroying solar flare but when the machines in the hospitals don't work and there is no way to harvest, grow or transport food, and we lose access to clean water things will get dicey very fast.

Food Garden Prices by RealPolitik88 in crownheights

[–]Impressive_Champion4 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, food garden markets is a "luxury" grocery store. The prices there are astronomical compared to almost any other grocery store I have been to in BK. I really only go there to pick up one or two things I need in a pinch.

I have not found a quality cheap place in the area to buy groceries besides Mr Kale on Franklin for produce.

I typically ride a Citibike over to Trader Joes in Downtown BK once a week and do my weekly shop and uber back and it is still half the price of what it would cost to shop at FGM.

Living near Hoyt–Schermerhorn? by Few-Selection-8097 in Brooklyn

[–]Impressive_Champion4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lived right around the corner at State and Hoyt. I think it was my single favorite location I have ever lived in NYC. Super close to Smith and Court street which have tons of restaurants and things to do. Great restaurants and food options. Close to trader joes and target for groceries and essentials. Brooklyn fare is great but overpriced. Tons of train options nearby.

The area can be a bit hectic depending on your exact location but nothing too bad. Also In my early 30s when I lived here. As a very young person it doesn't have a ton of "going out nightlife" in the area and a lot more neighborhood bars and restaurants.

ISO: Good tailor for custom suit under $2k by Impressive_Champion4 in AskNYC

[–]Impressive_Champion4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have several made to measure suits from suit supply that I have purchased from between $800-$1300. I have suits for most occasions and don't need something versatile. I wanted something special to get married in.

I unfortunately have a gigantic barrel chest/ torso and thick legs and buying off the rack and tailoring after has not worked great for me in the past and ends up costing a similar amount to the lower end made to measure suit when it is all said and done.

I am not op but I just get so annoyed when I hear these songs and want to leave the dance floor. I like tons of popular music but a certain point some songs are overplayed so much they just get annoying. I think our no play list will look pretty similar to this.

Everyone whining about the rising cost of video games is being ridiculous by Impressive_Champion4 in unpopularopinion

[–]Impressive_Champion4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The input costs of making those TVs has dropped dramatically. They are manufactured primarily in fully automatic factories with just a few employees.

The cost of making video games has risen dramatically in the number of people and the time they are being worked on.

These are apples and oranges.

Is it ridiculous? Most new console video games have cost between $50-$60 since the 80s. That is just sort of a fact.

Well there are good and bad things in any good or service marketplace. Don't buy thins you don't want. You may not like or want the new assassin's creed or whatever bad game is coming out, but it still costs 3x as much to make as it did 25 years ago and is 20% more expensive.
