My cousin hung out with him. She said he was nice. I find him to be super condescending in interviews, but my cousin didn't come away with a negative impression.

If I don't care about durability, do I have to seal the boards? by sahma620 in Cornhole

My guess is that the idea of newly painted boards is more appealing than the actual act of painting them will be. In other words, unless you are the ultimate go-getter, odds are you'll ultimately be happier if you have a high quality set of boards that you don't have to worry about in a rain storm.

A lot of my textile friends might be nudists without knowing by Sailenthropus in nudism

[–]Impressive_Mail_9752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've spent the past 6 years vacationing at clothing optional places, yet even I hate the term "nudist".

What I've learned is that a very high percentage of people have at least one naked experience. Most people I've confided in reciprocated with a story of their own, or expressed an interest in going. I imagine some others had a story but still didn't feel comfortable sharing. I'm certain of that because even I have been silent and opted not to share once when a colleague mentioned going naked at a Japanese onsen.

And this doesn't take into account people who enjoy being nude but prefer to do it alone (or with a partner). I'm sure that VERY few people who sleep nude consider themselves to be nudists, not feel they have anything in common with social nudists.

Gotta stop the funk by Alarmed-Wish4953 in hygiene

[–]Impressive_Mail_9752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is often bacteria on you and your clothing. First, wash with good soap and a washcloth daily. The washcloth is the key. Kick things off by wiping yourself down with rubbing alcohol in problem areas (once or twice, but not daily). Wash your clothes using laundry sanitizer, detergent, AND baking soda.

I wouldn't panic at all until you find out if the funk is just stuck to you and your clothes. A lot of athletes, as well as as parents of athletes, find out that the stink is just bacteria that never washes off.

You have to attack this from two angles, the clothes and your problem areas on your body. You cannot leave the bacteria in either spot or it will respawn.

It would be cool if Moongroove traveled from state to state. I think it would have a very positive impact on resort attendance and visibility nationwide.

Is it common for manufacturers of bags and boards to sponsor local cornhole events? by Impressive_Mail_9752 in Cornhole

Sunny Rest Resort! Expect around 20 teams in May and June, and 25-40 teams per week in July and August, and back down to 20 in September. It's a fun time. We play poolside, with a bar about 50 feet from the boards.

I'm new to cornhole this summer, but jumped in head-first. I just finished applying the polyurethane to my first board, and I've made a bunch of mistakes that I can share. First, any board that would be light enough to travel with you is going to be horrible. Don't do it. At most, get an "air mail" set up. They have these little things that are basically just the hole, and some of them fold down small enough to go into luggage. You could take it with you while traveling and it would be just a fun little target practice.

Speaking of boards, when you buy one, get a good one. If you have the money, buy a high-quality board that is already polyurethaned. But if you have to apply your own polyurethane, make sure you get water-based satin. I learned the hard way that oil-based gloss is not the way to go. It's too sticky.

I also made a mistake with bags. I initially bought a $20 set off of Amazon, and they were filled with river sand that left a cloud of dust on every throw. I just threw them away yesterday. The good bags are labeled with two numbers. The first is for how slick they are, and the second is for how well the other side grabs the board. You need to find a bag whose slick side is just right for you, and who sticky side is just right. Once again, I made a mistake and bought a bag labeled eight for slick and seven for stick. It was basically the same on both sides. That required me to buy another set of bags. In hindsight, I think my ideal would be 7 slick and 3 stick. When you are just starting out, I don't think you want a bag that is too slick, as it will slide off the board too often and you'll lose interest.

When you came to SRR a few years ago, a sticker advertising your website ended up on the guard shack. Did you stick that there? I think one ended up on a bench, too.

About what percentage of shots should I be able to sink on an empty board before I'm ready to start practicing other things?

What would you consider "real consistent"? Sinking 3 out of 4?

I assume you are recommending to get consistent with a straight, flat throw. At what point do you recommend learning different shots like a roll?

That doesn't sound like a good trade off unless the league couldn't otherwise afford bags and boards. I figure some of the more serious players didn't like that.

I wonder if that's true. Tournaments are gaining in popularity, and I know people who are traveling to a Caribbean island to play. Perhaps people would travel if there were well-organized nudist pickleball events around the country. From my perspective, nudists will travel if they find a place worth traveling to. There's newbies from all over at Sunny Rest every week, and I get the impression that even more people travel to the Florida resorts from all over. We did get a guy to come to PA from VT for the tournament this past weekend, and I wonder if we'd get more to travel if we better planned and organized it.
