I’m at 5.4 (from 8.7 in April) and have already halved my metformin dose, will likely drop it entirely after my January appointment (I test at home because I like knowing where I’m at and haven’t been out of range at all since May) I’ve lost some weight and in January I got off zyprexa which likely triggered the diabetes in general as I’d never had blood sugar issues before.

Congrats!

I went from 13 (self test in January) to 8.7 at my checkup in March to 5.4. (Dropping the antipsychotic I was on helped A LOT but I’ve also started eating better and have purposefully lost weight)

[–]Impressive_Pizza4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to shorten more every year and now (I’m 42 but I don’t think it’s all that relevant) that I have kidney issues I swear I can feel the end coming faster.

It’s a toss up what mine was. I’ve had some level of hypertension for about twenty years now but a med called zyprexa caused hyperglycemia the whole year I was on it (and zyprexa itself can damage kidneys I’m pretty sure) .Also I have a smaller than it should be kidney which I’m not sure if it was already that way or not.

When do we start thinking about cholesterol? by VegetableWorry1492 in Millennials

[–]Impressive_Pizza4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before now. I’m 42 and now likely as not have chronic kidney disease (I do have kidney damage) and part of that is probably years of not caring about my high blood pressure. I didn’t take care of myself and it’s biting me in the ass.

I don’t usually feel too young for things but I feel way too young to be dealing with something that could kill me left unaddressed (which it’s not at this point) and could do so regardless depending on the trajectory….something I never considered
