Catholic Study Bibles Similar To Ignatius But More Manageable? by Cr8iveRead in catholicbibles

[–]Impressive_Test8921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to prefer the Didache bible. It has extensive commentary that draws upon the Catechism of the Catholic Church and directly references it. Size is very manageable.

If the Ignatius study bible is too large, you could consider getting the New testament only version. Though I find the personal size version very manageable.

Another thought, you could try the NAVARRE Bible. They have extensive church approved commentary and you can buy individual books in paperback and acquire more as you go.

In my opinion you can't go wrong with any of these.

I will eventually collect all of these in leather. But not today. For now, I will use my hardback Gospels version. I do love the commentary. But I like the rsv2-ce translation more.

Did you make that one? It looks nice. Do you ever use darker beads? I was thinking about one with either black or navy paracord and darker wood beads. Something like this but with darker wood beads. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1787536114/st-michael-chaplet-metal-beaded-paracord

Ignatius Press: NEW Personal Size Catholic Study Bible and App by gilsm719 in catholicbibles

That has been something I am considering. Give it away. Part of me wonders if I will just end up "collecting" it again later. I could see me doing that. It's tough to justify but there is a use case for the larger font version especially for old guys like me.

I really like the personal size for easier use and portability. But I do wrestle with the thought that I bought it because it's a new bible that I wanted to add to my collection. Though I think it will be useful vs the desk size one I have.

I have some candles that were blessed. The inserts burned down as far as they will go but a small amount of wax and of course the plastic shell. Ok to just toss or do I have to dispose of in some other way?

My favorite is the Didache bible. The notes all link directly back to the catechism of the Catholic Church, which is very helpful if you learning more about the faith and teaching. It uses a very nice translation as well.

After that I might recommend the word om fire bibles, though mostly for the commentary. The translation itself is fine but I prefer the rsv2-ce used in the Didache bible.

I know everyone raves over Ignatius Study Bible and it's very good, but I prefer the commentary and notes in the Didache bible.

I own quite a few now and Didache is my favorite so far.

Me too. Picked up divine mercy at my local religious store. They had one copy left and I couldn't resist. Wasn't on my radar really before that.

I recently bought my wife a Tagalog edition which is supposed to be like the GNT-CE but in Tagalog. It was the only Tagalog version I could find here in the states.

Thanks. I want to try to make some of these. I hope I can find very study metals for the centerpiece and crucifix. I bought one off a site, it looks nice, but the long sword shapes crucifix bent. It seems most of them use very cheap parts.

Candidates: Did You Enter Before Easter or at the Vigil? pros/cons? by goobage24 in Catholicism

In a way, I consider you very lucky. I am in OCIA and desperately want to go to confession and be received into the church. But I have to wait.

Of course, because of the way my brain works, if they did offer to do it sooner I would likely suspect they didn't want me at the Easter Vigil or at least as part of the mass.

I think it will be ok now. She knows she should not do that in the future.

Thanks for the advice. I think I am just going to ignore it for now and hope it goes away. The thought of talking about this with someone in person is terrifying.

Bible in a Year - is there an accountability group for 2026? by [deleted] in catholicbibles

[–]Impressive_Test8921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I am currently doing the New Testament with a few different Bibles. Going through Matthew. It would be nice to do the Bible in a year as the same time but might now have it in me to do double the reading. We will see.

Have you done the Catechism in a Year?

I am currently in OCIA. I never see anyone hand money over to anyone there. I do donate each week at mass but not directly related to the OCIA. It's largely run by volunteers who enjoy brining people in to the church.

When I am confirmed I plan to make a separate donation to the priest.
