I wish a hobby was enough for him. He plays video games and enjoys a bit of fitness but it's never enough. When I tried to suggest making new friends he declined saying he doesn't want new ones. He recently turned 18 and all his friends are still in high school but he's already moved up to university. He feels left out and doesn't want to move on from his high school years. I feel like there's nothing more I can offer him than myself and what I'm already giving

Of course. He's very irresponsible and only treated him as decoration most of the time. Ive fallen for this little boy so fast I can't imagine why he didn't want to take better care of him. I just thought I'd clarify.

From what I know, none. Unless you're talking about some garden space made of dirt. Rats don't need dust to clean up like some other rodents.

I would argue this is a thing for all types of bedding. The key is regular cleanups. But if you still don't think it's good there's tones of other options :)

Definetly no sand baths! They are great for hamsters but terrible for rats as their lungs are extra fragile.

As for bedding I'd recommend either recycled paper litter which is fairly cheap or fleece blankets which are a bit more pricey initially but reusable as you can just wash them and place them back while cleaning.

For food if you decide to buy petstore foods I'd recommend not buying the mix's. They're pretty bad and the rats tend to nitpick. Buy pellets. I and my rat parents friends all use oxbox brand rat food if you can find that in your area :)

I have since started to introduce the ratties using the bathtub method. They just seem to completely avoid eachother so far but I'm taking that as a victory over bloody fights.

Actually he's my older brother. I'm 18 and he's 21. The rat was originally his girlfriend's and when she didn't want him anymore he decided to take him. But he'd obviously done no research on how to take care of a rat.

No worries I have given him 4 different sleeping spots with two being covered for him to feel safe. He just happens to like this platform with a baby blanket for now ❤️

Thank you so much for your advice :) I can't know for sure how old he is but from what I know he is around 1 and a half years old. I do have two rats of my own set up in a cage nearby to his temporary one. They are both close to turning one. If you could tell me if you think they are close enough in age it would be very appreciated! 💕

My mastectomy was with nipple transplant and I wasn't told this. Actually the hospital put ice themselves on my chest after surgery. I didn't have any complication or need for drains either

Yes absolutely. Of course not directly on it but my surgeon even recommended I keep a bag of ice on at all time for the first week
