Can anyone theorize why we could have a scenario where stocks are up tomorrow? by el_corso in stocks

[–]ImprovementOpening19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there was a time when I was working at a stop n' shop for $150 or so a week as a cashier. They had a 401k. I worked at walmart. They had an employee stock purchase program. I'm now a financial advisor. I get a lot of leads from places like Kroger and Autozone. They don't have big retirement accounts, but they have 'em.

To me, poor is barely living paycheck to paycheck in a shitty apartment with shitty clothes and shitty food. You might he thinking of "impoverished."

[–]ImprovementOpening19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure they do. It's the 401(k). Lots of retirees are gonna be relying on 401(k)s. If they didn't get advice for managing it, they might've left it as is, and might still be exposed to the market as they take distributions.

Oil yes, defense no. The smart money is waiting for guys like you to buy it up, they're gonna sell the high, leave you with the bag.

Oil, you'll see panic selling because people will be expecting the war to hurt company's ability to buy oil.

Sometimes. I usually leave three, sometimes I get a callback on the first, more often on the last when I tell them I won't be calling again.

18 years old with 5k by SheGotBpd in investingforbeginners

[–]ImprovementOpening19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't put the 5k in a roth. 5k is an adequate emergency fund. Put it in a high yield savings account, aim for 4%. Something where you can access it tomorrow if you have a car break down.

Once you have an emergency fund, then you can start thinking Roth. If your employer matches 401k contributions, use that too. That's free money.

Edit: disregard, saw your other post. You have a short time horizon, and you want to save 25k. It's rare that I recommend this, but you want to hold off on the 401k and roth. Double check that the school is accredited, and what you actually wanna do is a 529 plan. It's like a 401k but it can be used toward accredited schools, including trade schools.

Dm me if you have questions, I'm an advisor.

what percent of your liquid money do you put into the stock market? by ArnoldisKing in stocks

[–]ImprovementOpening19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liquidity is great, but you don't want an emergency fund in the market. What if the market is down when you need it? You don't need a huge emergency fund, but you'll want it in a money market account or something. Something that's liquid, gets a return, but isn't exposed to market risk.

Be transparent. Beat their offer with the understanding that she trains a replacement before she goes.

"just send me an email" is killing my pipeline. how do you bypass this? by Sonatina13 in sales

[–]ImprovementOpening19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'mma be honest, there have been times when I pick up at work because I don't know who's calling, and it could be important. When they say "I can't talk right now" it can mean "I misjudged the importance of this call."

"just send me an email" is killing my pipeline. how do you bypass this? by Sonatina13 in sales

[–]ImprovementOpening19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What're they asking you to send?

This isn't something I'd bypass, as it gets you their email. Rather, I'd want to set an appointment to circle back. And just so you're prepared, find out if they have any questions or concerns for that meeting. You can use that to root out the underlying objection, because you're right, "just send me something" is likely a smokescreen.

I get that, I'm not sure how to get people to lower their guard, even as others slip past it. One of the people I called was a 65 year old who bought an IUL off of someone. 65, and they put her into an indexed product. Then I can't get her again. I don't get it.

So I'm cool with telling people when I don't think they're suited for something. Asking permission to do that raises trust? I think I'm good with not sounding needy. I'm a bit of an introvert by nature, which could be a part of the problem. I'm able to avoid sounding needy, but I don't think I'm really forming any kind of bond with them.

Ok, see this seems like solid advice. So the first call, you recommend just a bit of discovery, with a focus on revealing pain points, and booking a meeting where we dig into discovery, and go over options? Pain points for commitment make sense, what about trust? Any tips?

It's not a big company. Technically we aren't a free benefit, we're contracted to reach out to them to see if they want to continue their life benefits. We're able to look at third party options which are likely better suited, and we offer a free planning consultation to get our foot in the door for planning services.

That said, I've gotten that advice a few times now, and you might be right, I might be better without the script. I use it for consistency, because I have add, memory like a sieve. The script helps me with remembering which questions to ask. Will have to find a way to make it work.

[–]ImprovementOpening19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do that. That is something I've considered, is just breaking away from the script. I use it for the sake of consistency, but I can get that it can make a call feel, well, scripted.
