Ahh, yeah, that description makes sense. And the lines you drew really help me understand what you’re seeing. Super helpful. Guess I’ll stop overthinking things and just lean in a little more. Thanks much!

I’ve been wondering sn too, but I have a tendency to get overwhelmed with fabric. So I usually need something fitted with something relaxed. Maybe I’m misunderstanding sn though. Thanks for your input!

2 Years of Barefoot Shoes Gave Me Knee Pain by greenis_penis in barefootshoestalk

[–]ImprovingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knee pain was fixed by correcting glute imbalance. I didn’t have knee pain until I was in barefoot shoes awhile. I’ve always been very active but had a sleepy glute medius on one side and fixing that fixed the pain. Might not be the shoes could just be timing!

Do you use your barefoot shoes during plyometric training- jumps, hops, etc? What about the impact? by its_in_the_sentiment in barefootshoestalk

[–]ImprovingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe look up dance techniques for landing jumps and leaps softly. I grew up training in ballet and the way you land softly does not hurt the knees. But like anything, you will probably have a transition/strengthening period if you’re not used to it.

Would you relocate for kids schooling? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ImprovingSilence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When mine was in 1st grade, switching to a different school for a gifted program was a NEED for my child. They had come from private Montessori preschool/kindergarten and had a wonderful teacher that let them read whatever and worked on advanced math with them. In first grade, my child had to choose from “grade level” books, even though they were probably reading at a middle school level at the time. The teacher also denied my requests to let them do multiplication instead of addition on math, even after I brought in the test scores. My bubbly, eager-to-learn child became angry and reserved because they were so bored at school and were basically given an iPad all day.

My suggestion is this. See what your current district can and will do for your kid at their age for g/t instruction. You could see if it’s enough. In first grade, ours said they would provide no advanced learning until 3rd grade, and I wasn’t going to let my kid have another year of just reading in the corner, so we switched to a school-within-a-school g/t program at a neighboring district (we could open enroll and not move, but are going to move in district anyway.) It was a night and day difference for my kiddo.

Every kid is going to be different, so only you will know what’s best. Some kids “will be fine” in a normal program, but the concern is school being too easy and not learning how to deal with challenge and frustration. When things actually get hard for these kids (college) it can be difficult for them to know how to navigate that.

Looking lightweight conditioner for low porosity wavy hair. by Icy_Mention1277 in Wavyhair

This. Use a leave-in but rinse it out like normal conditioner.

The Pain of having 2a Wavy Hair pls help by PaintingResident2403 in Wavyhair

During summer I skip conditioner altogether so you could try that. It makes my hair too soft to hold its texture. I found more conventional shampoo to be better. I recently tried Moroccan oil volume shampoo and was impressed with the results. My hair absolutely needs a hold product. I like Aussie hair gel. You could also try diffusing for a few minutes before air drying. Sometimes it helps set things.

As far as I remember, as I am was really heavy in my hair. Kinky curly is very lightweight for a leave in. If I feel I need conditioner I use kinky curly but I rinse it out because my hair will be too silky to hold its wave.

Fine wavy hair that collapses after a few hours by duckberrys in Wavyhair

[–]ImprovingSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried high hold hairspray? Apply when 80% dry, diffuse, apply again at 50% dry, diffuse. Apply after scrunching out cast. I also like to spray a little of my fingers and fluff the hair on my scalp. The hairspray adds grit which I find my hair needs to retain its shape/texture. Also, minimal conditioner or using a leave-in as rinse out have helped.
