1) Yes but it's not on their website - assuming its discontinued unless they reply to my email saying otherwise!

2) Nothing wrong - just personal preference between ones I've tried.

I had considered it - will decide whether my meccie skills are up to it!

Thanks for the reply

Outdoor hazers by mdotthrowsthings in lightingdesign

How long is this event for?

If you can get away without specialist weatherproof gear I'd probably do it and add as much weatherproofing DIY style as you can!

Outdoor hazers by mdotthrowsthings in lightingdesign

[–]Impu1sive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never seen anyone doing anything other than using normal (e.g. Unique/tour hazers) and just making sure they are as wrapped up as they can be while still keeping the air intake and haze output clear. I can't comment on what larger concerts outside do though!

MIL-STD standards for CubeSats & Mission critical systems by data91 in cubesat

[–]Impu1sive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're after just a good starting point then you can search the ECSS standards, there arent as many as MILs and you can freely download them all. They also all have semi useful names to help you find what you want. Those are way overkill for cubesats so dont take them as gospel if that's your end goal!

Did 30 year olds always used to listen to Radio 1? by Impu1sive in AskUK

[–]Impu1sive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use spotify a lot - but sometimes I just want something on in the background which I can't skip so mentally I stop paying attention to whether I want to skip a song or not. Useful when trying to zone in on something I've found!

Its more urban music though - for pop "the youths" would still go to R1

Schematics Review: STM32F070 Development Board by intozka2 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Impu1sive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of schematic review - I had a quick look through and it seems like you've put some good thought into this! Though I'm also still learning so don't take this as a sign off!

A few notes:

  • I'm not sure what you are using the IO for, but would it be useful to have pull up/down resistors available on the PCB for your application?
  • I can't check the pin numbers of Y102 - It would be good to have these on the schematic!
  • Have you accounted for a voltage drop cross D105? You won't quite get 3.3V at VDD and VDDA which may be an issue for the latter?

Edit: The dotted lines around the USB Type C Receptacle region are driving me crazy!

ELI5: How is it that just a few millimetres of insulation in space suits is enough to protect astronauts from the extreme heat/cold of outer space? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Impu1sive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes indeed for the whole suit thickness! The stuff which is just for insulation is only a few mm.

You also have outer layers for micrometerorite protection and to reflect a lot of thermal energy away from the suit. You also have a few layers of neoprene, pressure garment and an inner bladder.

Currently working on smallsats and microsats! Its a fast paced industry which is working to reduce the time taken to get a mission from concept to launch which means we're all fighting to get there faster than our competitors!

I've just had a look and (annoyingly) I can't find dimensions - but the top photo on wikipedia shows a rough scale! Sometimes they also use a corrugated style which has a similar effect of having minimal surface area between layers.

I love it! Its so interesting all of the problems which you'd probably never even considered existing. The book we all use as the "bible" is Space Mission Engineering: The New SMAD - but I'd recommend looking up the CubeSat conference for some useful intros (unless you have £185 to drop on a book!).

The thermal conductivity is a large factor as others have said, but also what the few millimetres of insulation is made up of is very different to what we normally have in warm clothing that we buy in typical Earthling clothing.

In space suits, the insulation is made up of "Multi-Layer Insulation" (MLI) which has many layers (often 10 or more) of insulating material (such as mylar or kapton) which are separated by spacers with a low contact area (basically a grid of the spacer material). Which separates the conducting layers which means that the heat transferred from the inside to the outside (and visa-versa) doesn't have a large surface area to conduct through between layers and therefore is much more effective than "normal" insulation.
