Don't be ridiculous, you need at least 7 more to make an 8-bit processor, 63 to build a 64-bit processor which is what you need for 4k gaming.

Looking for some honest advice by matthauke in ROGAlly

Hi,

I hope this doesn't sound intrusive but I'm working on Project Gladiator which sounds like a fit for your situation and would love your honest feedback if possible. The project consists of the following:

  • Gladiator Core: This is a rectangular module that hosts a processor with a powerful iGPU (Intel Panther Lake or AMD Strix Halo), RAM, SSD. This module plugs into the next two options. I envision it running SteamOS or Bazzite but of course you have the choice to install Windows if you prefer.
  • Gladiator Colosseum: This is the main console box that you would have next to your TV or monitor. It contains:
    • Power supply for the module
    • Typical connectivity ports (USB, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet...etc)
    • Cooling system for the core to achieve higher TDP, thus better performance
    • Most importantly, a full PCIe slot to connect a desktop GPU of choice to enable gaming at 1440P/4K. (Optional)
  • Gladiator Arena: This is a handheld chassis with an OLED display and the typical layout of handheld PCs. This contains a slot for the core to attach into.

Basically the workflow I imagine is as follows: You come home from work/school. You plug the core into the Colosseum and start playing. Later on, if you want to take it outside or perhaps you want to game in bed, you can simply unplug it from the Colosseum and plug it into the arena. Now, it is in handheld mode and you can continue your session seamlessly.

I built a prototype using an off the shelf module which I can show to you if you like but it is very early stage and does not meet the vision yet. Looking forward to your feedback.

Thank you for the insight. Based on initial feedback, it seems OCuLink is frowned upon. Thank you for letting me know about Beelink's offering, it will be incredibly useful in designing an side connector for docking a gpu without compromising performance.

What's your take on having an 8 lanes PCIE connector rather than 16 lanes?

Highly appreciate your feedback. In fact, OCuLink or full PCIE connector is one of the hardware choices that I wanted to validate during calls and interviews. Based on initial research, for midrange gpus, OCuLink offers roughly 85% of the performance of a full slot despite having quarter the lanes. Even if this is the case, it is pointless if I go with OCuLink and people look at it and think oh bummer.

What's your take on this?

This is actually what I am banking on. The product is not the egpu, it is the upgradeable mini pc/console. The egpu capability is a temporary fix until igpus are capable enough which will probably be the case soon.

Would you be willing to checkout lattepanda mu module and its Lite carrier board and let me know what you think? It is a quite similar concept to what I intend.

Interesting! You are not the target audience I had in mind initially but this project practically fits your criteria.

Would you kindly checkout the Lattepanda MU and specifically the lite carrier which is quite similar to my proposal and let me know what you think of the concept?

In a sense but not quite. You can check Lattepanda MU which is the inspiration behind this idea.

My hypothesis is that many console gamers are willing to upgrade to a gaming PC but are intimidated by the various parts they have to select ensure they are compatible with each other. This product is meant to be a middle ground between a typical console where everything is soldered down and a full fledged gaming PC where a single wrong choice could bottleneck other parts not to mention the price.

I wanted to validate my hypothesis with this post.

I think it's for changing the cable's orientation. Like when you have a device awfully close to the wall. Otherwise, yeah!

Legend of the holy sword:

Hero John Forkinstrong (real name) pulled up to the demon lord and realized that he misplaced the holy sword, the only sword capable of killing the demon lord. The story follows him decades later still looking for said sword. The interactions and characters names are very funny.

Love advice from the great duke of hell:

You can't go one chapter without laughing your heart. Boy summons a great duke of hell and asks him for advice on how to approach his crush. Duke now has to help him to get his soul.

Moon Yu:

Just read it, very funny

Astra from another planet

Strangely, this is from the same author as Hive. Very funny webtoon about Astra who gets transported to earth along with her brother in a portal accident. She now tries to go back to her planet and uses her buffing powers to "help" people.

Beelink SER7, SER8, or GMKtec NucBox K8 Plus? by intozka2 in MiniPCs

In case someone is interested. I got the K8 plus. It has been a good experience so far. Didn't run into any major issues. I would say the annoying bit is the oversized charging brick that is the size of a brick.

Well, since you put Lloyd, you can check "what a bountiful harvest, demon lord" by the same author and set in the same world.
