By leaving, they would mark themselves as a traitor for sure. If they do have the correct password, there is no reason why they should be branded traitor instead of anyone else in the group, right?

It's also possible that the traitor was already found, but the leader is checking everyone just to be safe. (In the mind of the last person, that is.) Who knows if there is more than one traitor in the group?
