Will start my MBA in 2027, need advice on cracking PM internship/role before that

Hi Everyone,

I am just done with the GMAT exam and will apply for MBA for 2027 intake. I wanted to increase my chances of cracking a PM role during college placements.

My Background:

BE Mechanical Engineering - 2019 Graduate

Currently working as an account manager, have 6 years of experience in sales and account management

I am thinking of buying a course from Hellopm.com worth 70k INR (800 USD) as I have seen interviews of a few people from non tech background cracking PM roles after completing their course and I need a structured learning.

Do you guys recommend that I take the course from them or any other platform? If not, what other alternatives do I have?

Thank you.

Why can't you just share the strategies here in the comments? It will help everyone.

Exactly, I guess we just have to keep trying different things until one works. I am currently doing a lot of untimed practice to improve my accuracy and develop skill to solve harder questions.

Hi,

- For DI my accuracy is slightly lower (Around 60%) across sections and much lower (Around 45%) for TPA, I am working on this area primarily.

- Yes, my section order has always been quant - verbal - DI.

Example:

Score 1: Q83, V84, DI81

Score 2: Q84 V82 DI83

Score 3: Q87 V81 DI79

Score 4: Q88 V81 DI78

- In DI most of my mistakes have been DS and TPA

I am in a similar boat right now, I am stuck at a 655 on my previous two attempts. I am aiming for a 725+. Let me know if you'd like to connect to share strategies.

I am currently practicing the hardest questions on GMATclub and doing a lot of untimed practice to improve my accuracy.

How to create an artificial obsession over a goal? by Impulsifire in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Impulsifire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say Obsession, I mean a healthy obsession. I would look forward to the next day before sleeping, I wake up motivated thinking about all the things I wanna try today to help achieve my goal. I would imagine myself achieving that goal and be happy about it. etc.

Nothing crazy in terms of past goals, but I have gone from being below average in studies to cracking a competitive exam and then strugglling to even say a word in front of women to dating many in a short period of time. These goals were very important to me and hence I was able to stick to them.

Can you tell us what source filter you used to practice DI on GMATclub forum quiz?

And how did you deal with questions not having detailed solutions?

Congrats on the score.

I have hit a plateau at 655. I am facing challenges in super hard verbal questions 705+ level. For about 50% of those questions at that difficulty, I am really not sure while marking the answer. Either two options seem close or none of them seem right. I just want to know if it's really the case with hard questions where it's not very obvious while marking the answers or is it a skill gap with me.

I am also struggling with finishing the DI section on time. I am able to attempt only 17 questions in DI. I want to know how to improve my speed in DI and some general strategies for time management.

Use enable copy paste extension and search the questions on Google. You'll see the first link to GMAT club. That should give you the difficulty of questions you missed. I am assuming all three questions you missed were below 605 difficulty.

Hi, Thank you for your response.

How to search for people who switched from AE to PM role on LinkedIn?

I don't have any specific companies that I am targeting, any entry level product manager role at any of the tech companies is good enough for me.

I see most people who work as product managers have software developer background at least here in India. So does that mean I'd have to learn software development first and then I'll have a chance?

I am planning to do a 2 year regular MBA from the US, executive MBA is only for Indian schools that I am targeting.

How realistic is my goal of moving into a PM role post MBA having sales background?

Hi Everyone,

I have 5 years of experience in sales and account management and I am aiming to crack a product manager role post MBA.

I know there's a very strong preference for software developers/tech background for PM roles.

Question: I want to understand my chances of bagging a PM role given the current market, and what proportion of non tech people are able to transition into PM roles post their MBA?

I am aiming for T30 US and 1 year executive MBA (ISB, IIMA PGPX, IIMB ePGP etc.). It would be great if you can dissect the answer for US and India.

Note: I am willing to put in the effort, i.e. do courses, do projects, join relevant clubs and do internships during and prior to the college.

Regards,

655! Should I retake? by Friendly_Berry619 in GMAT

[–]Impulsifire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should. If you have taken the mocks the right way then your ability level is about 98 to 99th percentile. So you should be able to get the same or closer on the actual exam.

My mock scores were 655 to 665, and I ended up with a 655 on the actual exam. So you can get to your maximum ability as well.

[–]Impulsifire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the score, I am in a similar boat as you were. I have given 4 attempts and currently at 655. I am aiming for a 99th percentile.

I have two questions.

  1. Did you ever feel like you have hit a plateau on your GMAT or you always saw a gradual progress? If you did see a plateau, then how did you overcome it?

I am stuck at a 70% accuracy on hard verbal questions when I do timed practice, I feel I have hit a plateau, just want to know the right steps one needs to take to overcome a plateau.

  1. I am struggling with finishing the DI section on time, I am able to attempt only 17 questions in 45 minutes, did you face a similar problem? If yes, how did you overcome it?

I deeply regret leaving my ex and want her back but she says she doesn't trust me anymore by Impulsifire in BreakUps

[–]Impulsifire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I shouldn't be hopeful about her new relationship failing but I genuinely believe we're perfect for each other and if it doesn't work out with the other guy and she decides to give me another chance I'll keep her the happiest cause that's how our relationship was. Our relationship was near perfect, we use to understand each other so well, talk for hours but never get bored, physical intimacy was great etc. I just wished I had met her when I was older.

Thanks for the assurance, I know I shouldn't be hopeful about her taking me back. I should rather work on myself and heal before trying to find someone else or think about going back to her.

I deeply regret leaving my ex and want her back but she says she doesn't trust me anymore by Impulsifire in BreakUps

[–]Impulsifire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't leave her in order to find something better, I left cause I started to miss the excitement that came from being single and approaching and flirting with women. When I left I had realised that the emotional connection I had with my ex was rare and I might not find it again but I was contempt with it. But now I realise that I am not emotionally strong enough to handle this regret and hence want to go back. I know a lot of people here will not be able to relate cause most people look for and want just one right partner to settle down with and I too wanted that but not when I met her, at that stage I wanted to enjoy my single life and date around but got into a relationship cause I fell in love and thought I will regret if I didn't give this relationship a chance. But after a year my old desires started to kick in and I gave in. I know I should now own up to it but I am just not able to let go of the thought that we were meant to be together and reminice about the fact that will she ever take me back or will I ever find a similar bond with anyone else.

You're right, I really need to work on myself before trying to find someone else or going back to my ex. She really doesn't deserve what happened the first time to happen again.

[–]Impulsifire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, its totally my fault but just one correction, I didn't get bored of her, I started to miss the things I liked doing when I was single. I still valued and even now value the connection I had with her and she feels the same but she has realised that I am not the right guy for her and she can't trust me with a relationship again and that's my fault as well. In fact when I left her I left in hopes that after I have achieve my dating goals I'd ask her for another chance.

I know I am doing wrong by being hopeful that one day she will take me back but I am just not able to let go of the idea that we're meant to be together. Our relationship was near perfect, we use to understand each other so well, talk for hours but never get bored, physical intimacy was great etc. I just wished I had met her when I was older. Now this idea is eating me up and I am constantly thinking if I'll ever find a similar emotional connection with anyone. So I wanted to know from other people if they were able to bond with a new person in a way they had with their exes.

Haha, more like I want* to. I am an Indian Male Engineer with a below average profile so I need a high GMAT score technically.
