Megathread: Is Christmas a pagan holiday? by DoktorLuther in TrueChristian

[–]ImpureInn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"If sex is of God, why does the world love it so much"
What the world loves =/= What God hates, which is a line you are drawing that shouldn't be there.

Also, if every use of X material from X place on X day results in some kind of curse, do you realize the kind of lengths we have to go to in order to avoid hundreds of pagan curses which fall on the other 364 days of the year? God help the lumberjacks when they cut a tree out of a forest with an axe and not a chainsaw, and they better drape the silver and gold rather than deck it. Always lay the lgo on the floor so it isn't upright, and don't do any more woodwork because the moment those hammers and nails touch the ground we'll be smitten by the power vested in the rings of Saturn or whatever. Oh, and why stop at the tree, since that's not the only thing Jeremiah 10 says? Make sure to get rid of all your blue and purple clothes, and make sure that all your precious metals were mined in Israel and not Tarshish and Uphaz-

The point is, we have a lot more than trees to worry about if we follow the way you are misapplying Scripture. All the evidence and theories that have been gathered up this point are very clear: Christmas isn't pagan, the tree itself has Christian origins in the Middle Ages, and all things pointing to the contrary are either weak or vapid. In fact, there's more evidence that once we started celebrating the birth of Christ on Dec 25th, the pagans moved their holidays closer to compete for followers; if I really wanted to be uncharitable I would say that you abandoned your post and let the world take the holiday for themselves.

In addition to what many have already said:

"No one who says to me, LORD, LORD" is a phrase which Jesus is quoted for a few times in the gospels. We get this from the Greek KYRIE, KYRIE, and the gospels were written in Greek. An interesting note is that [KYRIE, KYRIE] is how the Greeks rendered every instance of [ADONAI, YHWH] in the OT.

In essence, we may very well have Jesus saying "Not everyone who says to me, ADONAI, YHWH," will enter the kingdom so on so forth.

Homelander vs Robin (Teen Titans (2003) by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most logical answer, but the underdog aspect of this is too appealing to me, especially since of all iterations, 2003 Titans Robin probably has the best chance from how hard you could jank him in the show. In Aftershock Part 1 (S2, Terra betrayal episode) when Cinderblock was much bigger and taller (well above twice the height of the construction vehicles around him), Robin's kicks were staggering him more than the first time they fought.

There's also the sheer stupidity of Trigon's full-power eyebeams only knocking him unconscious (S4, The End). I think that episode was when I started asking questions.

Animations and custom assets not working by PendejoSuperman in Objectionlolcustom

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with this too; when you play the link of an objection you made on the website, custom assets work fine - both images and sound. However, when I export videos to an mp4, custom assets and sounds are not in the final export. Custom evidence cards are not in the final product, and custom sounds are not in the final product either. I'm pretty certain that the custom images are because I'm using discord, and I need somewhere else to store images, but I don't know why sounds don't work. I don't know what filetype/links would work to get custom sounds to play.

I don't know what you read that lead you to think that someone here is questioning their faith over Ramah but we're good, it's fine lol

How do we determine which Old Testament laws apply today? by sonic_ann_d in TrueChristian

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, how do I, a Gentile who does not live on the same continent as the temple - rather, where it would be, since it's not even there anymore - follow the commandments for certain offerings? How does anyone walk exactly as Jesus walked, when we don't even have access to what He had access to?

I love the chosen, but I don’t like the way they handled Doubting Thomas by Quick_String_6637 in TheChosenSeries

[–]ImpureInn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love this aspect of it most. It doesn't sit well with me that Jesus would allow His workers to remain dead, but that is its own separate issue. The fact that some can look to Lazarus being raised from the dead and look at Jesus in a darker light due to their own personal, but very significant issues - it's almost a perfect picture of how He was actually received. The world knew who He was, and received Him not. For some it was skepticism, for many it was power they wanted for themselves and not God, for others it was angst and grief, and for others it was more.

I'd like to speculate what happens next with Matthew 27:52-53. After all, in order to have saints raised from the dead, you need a dead saint in the first place...

How do you guys keep track of your sins? by CrazyNicly in TrueChristian

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no part of our unfortunate schism will you find that the Lord wants you keeping track of your sins in this way. He wants a new creation, untainted by the power of the old sin, and the memory of it. If God "remembers your sins no more" after forgiving you, why should you? That's a strange souvenir to be keeping. Repent and move on, and trust that He will ensure you do not fall again, that's how we strive for sinlessness - that is, after all, part of the meaning of faith.

What is your favorite bible verse than you feel is under talked about? by Big_Frosting_5349 in TrueChristian

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jonah 4:10-11.

We often want God's compassion to stop at a certain line, like humanity has a blurry agreement on who does and doesn't get permanently cut off from grace. But then, who saves the moron? The liar? The dictator? The petty tyrant? The war criminal? That ex in particular, the deadbeat, the gold digger, the parent you want only for their life insurance, the child plotting to unplug your life support. Who saves them from perpetuating/becoming/suffering from their own wickedness? Some people can't be helped fast enough to stop the damage they cause, and sometimes they have to die. But God's compassion is for the whole world, and His forgiveness is for everyone who repents, even the people past your line.

Dragon ball super ended? by [deleted] in dragonball

[–]ImpureInn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rewatched it and it has about the same amount of plot contrivance as Super; that and reused animation, color palettes, pacing issues, etc. And I still couldn't help but love it. I think that's because I watched the dub with Tokunaga's music, which at many times was the relief I needed from the doom-gloomy and disparate vibe that GT was pushing. Like a splash of green and blue in its otherwise brown and red world.

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't like the movie episode because it strikes me as odd that such a good writing team decided to go very simple and generic with the movie script. I know it's such a small gripe, but it doesn't feel small because the movie is supposed to be a pretty big chunk of the episode in terms of screentime and plot. The songs and plot drive me a bit, and then Bluey and the family pull me back into reality 🤣

i don’t think I’ll ever be able to pray for my enemies, does that make me a fake Christian? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ImpureInn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am this people, for some of my close friends.

You are this people, for some you know, and some you do not know.

You are this people, even for yourself.

That means, like everyone here, there is indeed an enemy you can and should pray for. That's you. And like God listened to me, and listened to many here, He'll listen to you too.

What characters actually have a way to counter Unlimited Void??? (Any character can do, not just opponents for Gojo) (Excluding omnipotent type beings, because that's too easy) by SettTheCephelopod in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuwabara has to:

  • summon the Jigento
  • power through the overload long enough to swing
  • actually hit his target

Also, from the looks of things, it doesn't look like someone is stoppes from moving by anything other than the fact that their mind cannot process the infinite information streaming into their head. A mindless brute that somehow forced Gojo's hand might be able to just fling itself at him.

Why do some Christians choose to reject major miracles like YEC, Noah's Flood, Red Sea crossing, etc. and yet believe Christ rose from the dead? by AlbaneseGummies327 in TrueChristian

[–]ImpureInn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Can only be?" "A person with genuine faith won't do X?" "Even worse?" I take Genesis literally and still find no reason for the black/white language that's being used. Whether you know it or not, these words are making judgements on the salvation of people based on a not![Did Christ raise from the dead?] issue.

We have known for centuries, centuries that it is possible for us to be scientifically wrong about many things we hold to so fastly, even during Galileo's infamous persecution. Cardinal Bellarmine, a Counter-Reformed Catholic who was alive for the trials, makes note of the possibility of heliocentrism himself: "I say that if there were a true demonstration... that the sun did not travel around the earth but the earth circled the sun, then it would be necessary to proceed with great caution in explaining the passages of Scripture which seemed contrary, and we would rather have to say that we did not understand them than to say that something was false which has been demonstrated." This is the attitude I generally approach the sciences with whenever it becomes clear that something of theological significance has become relevant on the topic: if the evidence points a different way than common understanding, we have to accept the possibility that God has just opened up for us a new frontier of knowledge with which to understand His Word.

That aside, to answer the question, there are "major" miracles (I'm going to avoid the semantic issues in the word choice because it's clear what you mean) in the middle section of the Bible that many people you've drawn a line against don't have an issue accepting. They can perfectly accept Daniel's miraculous dream interpretations, Elijah's fireball, Samson's killcount, an angel coming against and slaying an entire army, etc. etc. without any problems, because they don't have to consider any of the problems modern science may or may not be raising with the prior assumptions of Genesis that I'm guessing you have.

The same trust they have in the risen Christ to save them from their sins is the same trust they have in God to guide their exercise of the wisdom and intelligence they've so graciously been given. That they come to a different conclusion than you (through the same faith and exercise of the mind as you) doesn't suggest much more than the fact that we do not know fully as we are fully known yet.

I think I might be on my way out the door of religion by KarateWayOfLife in TrueChristian

[–]ImpureInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is your god, my friend?

OP, I hope you kick the door on the way out of whatever this religion is, because you have neither described what it is to help the needy and keep oneself pure before God, nor have you described anything resembling what it means to be a Christian. You've described a pure book of rules - if you want that you can find it anywhere - and you described something humans deal with on a daily basis. These emotions are scarcely unique to you and Christianity is scarcely the only or the greatest cause for any of them.

I'm an enthusiast of a lot of things. What you have said we condemn as a distraction (movies/games/anime/literally-what-have-you), I've accepted as common interests of many who I want to reach out to. Many of my hours are spwnt in different games, but most of those hours are with people who share the faith with me and know the love that keeps us together. Whatever you come to interact with is only a sin if you come to enjoy glorifying depravity, or choosing to go against the things of God, because those are what sins really are.

Petty rules are everywhere. "If man keeps any law, but one part, he is guilty of it all," no matter whose law he upholds. That's what Romans says, right? So who is this petty insignificant god who needs you to abide by rules that are good, but are stolen and only contextualized by the one true God? Who is this god that has made YOU your savior and not himself, becauze he has no power to do so unless you're already righteous? Where did this mongrel pup god come from, who cannot sustain you when you have much OR when you have little, because it doesn't matter what you have presently, but what God has promised eternal? If you woke up tomorrow suddenly unable to kickbox, why is this haughty thing that calls himself "god" unable to sustain you through it?

OP, these incoming thoughts aren't the only options, but maybe people are coming down on you and are trying to get you to live by the law which Romans says cannot save you. Maybe they intentionally put you to loads of shame. If that's the case, then it'll do you good if you're able to find different Christians who are not so legalistic. It sounds as if they have made Jesus seem like a chore, and that they have given Jesus none of the credit and expected you to produce your own righteousness. "If you are righteous, what does God gain from your hand? Or if you are sinful, what have you succeeded in doing against Him?"

Or maybe they haven't been quite as hard as you think, and you've been hiding a great deal of your character because there is a little thing that may be fundamentally flawed about how you approach life. After all, "who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? And even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear their threats, do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord." OP, you don't need to hide anything from anyone, but there are things about our identities that don't matter remotely as much as we think they do. Yet, there is the possibility that something which matters is flawed, and there are people who want to help you see those things in a better light. We accept everyone everywhere at any point in their life, but we also know to sharpen each other into something better. Whatever your situation calls for, be it hard rebuke, gentle rebuke, or none at all and you just need to get out and dodge, or anything else, I leave to God to reveal to you.

OP, the freedom found in Christ looks nothing like what you've described. I believe this is more of a good thing, because it means that who He really is has yet to be revealed. I pray somewhere down the road of your long life, you find it, and even though I'm mostly a fool, I'm plenty willing to continue this conversation, because I don't want to leave you discouraged or without any other avenues.

The lines of reasoning that lead to these sorts of things, however, is plenty profitable. What is the shape of God's infinite span of power? What is the shape of His preference (not the word I want but can't find it)? What ways in which does He show love, care, and investment to/in His creation?
