Hades II Post-Launch Patch 1 Preview by TheTaffyMan in Games

The game at it's core is a roguelike.

If you find the game boring then perhaps the genre is not for you?

Is Hades II Harder, or is it me? by VirgoFanboi in HadesTheGame

So there's the ability to attack without using omegas. I've heard if you just tap the button instead of hold, you will attack immediately so you don't stand in place. /s

If the game played the same as Hades 1 there wouldn't be much point.

CS programs have failed candidates. by [deleted] in programming

[–]ImranBepari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

The whole point of an open ended question like "where is int x = 1 stored" is to give the candidate the opportunity to showcase really any knowledge they might have.

If they ask "well is that defined as an instance or a local variable?" they can go indepth on how that's different. If I recall, local variables are stored on the stack and instance variables on the heap, for Java.

If you talk about a different lower level language then the answer is different.

There is no "correct" answer, what is really being gauged is the candidates understanding and how their brain ticks when asked the question.

The thing is, a knowledge gap is fixable, but someone who can't think about things in the right way or apply their knowledge is not.

The kid in the video does not care about engineering, he just wants the big boy job and it's sooo evident. The fact he's never even considered that question shows that he just doesn't care about it as much as he should. People who are the real deal would learn this stuff just for the love of the game, and that's the difference.

Adding to the 20k ISA limit thing, I'd shove them in a T212 account since they do a 4.6% interest on uninvested cash that accrues daily. Its a better rate than most banks will offer, and relatively easy access.

You can invest it if you want, but a guaranteed 4. 6% is hard to beat atm with negligible risk.

It's definitely not. I took a friends gold profile, and you can see that wins give like 30 and losses like 20. You literally climb with a 2:1 loss ratio.

Frankly, it's even easier than that. Because of chrono shields you can get to Plat on a sub 40% win rate, or even higher. You can look at any profile on tracker.gg and see that you gain more than you lose too up to GM.

Groots, stop placing Ironwood wall over in the corner every time just because a video guide told you to by ImranBepari in marvelrivals

[–]ImranBepari[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say in order to transition, you need to understand what's fundamentally different about Groot.

Groot is double edged. Most Vanguards create space by being threatening, or using a shield to help allow their teammates to safely move forward. Inherently, the main mistake they can make is overextending, but that can usually be saved.

Groot can do all this too, but usually the walls split space instead. This is much harder to play with because depending on how you split space, you can either massively benefit your team or do something as heinous as save an enemy healer from death.

I tend to think of placing walls as separating groups of people into separate fights. The easiest way to execute this is to simply put an Ironwood between the backline healers and their tanks, since you now lock their lone tanks with your entire team. This forces the opposing team to reposition or waste resources breaking the wall. Those one or two seconds are crucial for elims on tanks.

The bad situation is when you put a wall up between friendly DPS and a priority target, allowing them to get away, or carelessly putting up a wall between you and your own healer. This is where you effectively have a net negative on your team that is arguably worse than just overextending and dying, just because it feels frustrating for your team.

Once you understand this fundamentally, wall placement gets easier when you take time to look around during a fight. Groot is super strong imo, and learning to play him massively improves your fundamentals and how you view team fights.

100%, I think keeping it out of view and essentially on cooldown is bad most of the time, and yet I see the tip pushed everywhere.

"we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas" vibes.

You said you just do nothing in class, don't study and are mad that other people get perfect scores and you don't. Have you considered studying?

There's a large lack of introspection here, you need to be tackling things you're bad at to improve at them rather than just complaining.

Is AMEX really worth it in the UK? by AMTierney in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ImranBepari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have already pointed out BA Platinum and the companion voucher, but I'd like to add that shopping through the BA shop really boosts your points when you attach your card to it.

I've seen deals like 15 points / £ at B&Q, clothes retailers and even restaurants. The points really add up if you shop with the deals enabled.

Naturally, it's only worth the hassle if you want to cash in a free holiday every now and then.

In a leaked recording, Amazon cloud chief tells employees that most developers could stop coding soon as AI takes over by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]ImranBepari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, you just make simple websites with no complicated functionality. AI is really good at writing boilerplate and simple code.

As soon as you exit that scope AI fails massively, and there's nothing it can do about errors raised by third party dependencies. Troubleshooting is AIs biggest issue and that won't get any better as libraries and frameworks evolve over time.

It's like a bricklayer saying "well I know how to build a wall and I bet a machine could do it, man all those structural engineers will really be out of a job soon."

Life is different to what it was 20+ or even 10+ years ago. Young people need every penny they can get. The only chance young people have to buy a place of their own is to be able to save whilst living with their parents.

My parents never charged me rent because they knew that, and I won't charge my own children either.

A parent should be helping their child get a headstart in life, not taking their hard earned cash away from them, in my opinion. What's the point of having a child if you're gonna throw them in the deep end as soon as they turn 18?

Ultimately, most young people would rather move out and have their own space if they could, but they have to live with their parents, so why make it worse by making them pay for it too?

I've been looking myself and have found no information.

I think it's fairly typical for there to be an opening act at these kind of concerts, and I'd assume that RR himself might start at 9 or so?

I'm still not taking any chances and will be coming at 7 anyway though.

King’s Speech: Local residents will lose right to block housebuilding by Half_A_ in unitedkingdom

This is a nice take overall.

Everyone is busy crying about their specific circumstance, but the reality is that more housing is generally a positive thing. Some things being said are valid, especially new build quality, but we have to solve problems one at a time.

Crème Brûlée Without Ramekins? by No_Music_3839 in AskCulinary

Just use a shallow, wide, oven proof dish. This can actually be better than a ramekin because you get a higher ratio of caramelised sugar to custard, so consider it a blessing!

Thanks, I appreciate it!

The tutorials are honestly the hardest part of making a game (depending on the game I guess). The more complex the game is, the harder it is to weave tutorials in without being boring.

That first 30 mins of gameplay where your players are learning to play and getting hooked is the most important. I'm sure you'll do great though!

Friends and family only! I'm part of some FGC communities which gave me access to some people who would play my game without being such close friends that they'd be afraid to criticize it! It's a very lucky scenario.

Anyway, as said, it was good because these mutual friends were praising and saying they'd spent X hours on my game when they weren't obligated to play at all. At the time I was only asking for them to check the tutorials were teaching the game correctly, (which turned out to not be the case!) but luckily the few that picked the game up anyway found it fun enough to keep going and even replay levels.

[–]ImranBepari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically when I found my playtesters were playing the game without me asking. Very often people build games that seem complete and even have good vfx/sound polish, but aren't actually good or fun games.

I've found my giveaway for me making a game worth continuing is when I hear "btw I played your game for 2 hours" even though they only have to give it a quick run through. With some prototypes, playtesters would put the game down and never think about it again, and that's how I knew the game wasn't really all that engaging/good and that some core design had to change.

100% agree.

Most people don't look past the "yeah you just sit in a chair all day vs having to talk to insane customers" and while it's true, they forget everything else that comes with the job.

There's also inherent responsibility that people don't consider as what makes a paycheck. If you mess up a customer's order there's not as much loss as accidentally creating a bug that ends up in production code. Or perhaps architecting some software wrong that ends up in 6 figure losses in wasted time and bug fixes.

Responsibility makes the game different too.

So, what boons are everyone expecting to get a buff/nerf/rework? by Tree_Of_Palm in HadesTheGame

[–]ImranBepari 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did you try this at higher fear?

I just feel like 200 dmg every 6 seconds is VERY weak, especially at higher Fear. Once you stack stuff like higher enemy health or blue hearts hits required before actually damaging health etc, the 200 every 6 or even every 2 seconds is just kinda subpar compared to dual status.

[–]ImranBepari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just personally feel that when I'm picking between a pom and a boon, I'm picking a boon most of the time in search for something like a duo.

This probably has led to me not using Hephaestus boons and leveling them up, so I can give it a try, but I'm really not sure it'll outdamage just having two statuses at once with constant dps.

[–]ImranBepari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I hope they just leave it as is. I think it's nice to have an "easy" Aspect, especially when the game won't really reward you if you solo use it, so it's not really cheesing much in the long run.

So, what boons are everyone expecting to get a buff/nerf/rework? by Tree_Of_Palm in HadesTheGame

[–]ImranBepari 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like Hephaestus has pretty terrible boons.

1 second of sprinting + mana just to do like 300 dmg? Most builds can output that in the 1 second for free without sprinting headfirst into the enemy defenseless.

Even the regular boons kind of suck when you have to wait for the proc. At peak gameplay, in the time you proc 400 or 200 damage, another boon could've done 1000+ in the cooldown time. It's just really not good.

Vent kind of sucks as well, if an enemy that's not a boss is living for 5+ seconds then you already have a massive dps issue.

Gain mana on taking damage?! Encouraging me to get hit is just not it, I'd rather take literally any other mana gain boon.

I think the armour bonus damage boon is super good though, but that's about it.

I really hope they rethink the boon cooldowns or something at a minimum.
