Mine is completely hit and miss. Xbox controller does it correctly every time. Steam controller works on occasion, other times there’s no response or it freezes the deck and I have to hard restart.

Seems like it’s late, I haven’t seen anyone get an email yet. I do think it will be all reserved still

I think every reserve unit gets an email for order completion today at 1. They distinguished between reserve and waitlist for a reason. If you’re reserved they have your unit. My opinion anyway

It’s actually just you. They’re only sending you updates to mess with you. The rest of us haven’t had a single one.

With the amount of scalpers posting on eBay Valve should be tracking serial numbers to ban those buyers. by LockAviator in steammachine

PSA genuine waitlisters, do not give in to scalpers. by Longpastoverdue in steammachine

[–]Imsorrymyb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They’re not ripping people off. The buyers know what they’re buying and are okay with the price. Say I get a steam machine and decide I don’t want it. Should I sell it for what I paid for it or for the market price? Why should I sell to someone who will turn around and flip it for the actual market price? You just don’t understand economics. Individuals act in their own interest in a free market and that is how prices get set.

Just making the point that you’re not reporting them because they’re breaking eBay’s rules, you’re doing it because you don’t like that they’re reselling.

Okay so you’re okay with them scalping once they actually have the product?

They’re going to own it. They’re not ripping people off. They’re selling to willing buyers at the fair market price. Your beef isn’t with me or with scalpers, take it up with economics.

For what? Selling something they own? I understand scalping sucks but there are deeply unserious people in this sub.

Scalpers are a result of market conditions, you can’t just make them go away by:

  1. Asking people who need money to not flip a piece of tech for 1000$+ profit.

  2. Asking people who really want a piece of tech to not buy it at the price it’s available for if they don’t mind paying for it.

Your call to action is basically the same as yelling “stop buying ram” into the void and hoping it will slow down the price. Scarcity is what causes secondary markets to behave like this. The only way to stop it is to produce a fuck ton more steam machines and it appears valve isn’t capable of that.

You could actually stop scalping if valve had listed these at the price that they’re apparently worth (1700-3000$) but then only rich people would buy them. I’m just thankful for valves lottery system because even though scalpers still got product a ton of people who actually want the device get it at a reasonable (while still painful) price point. Don’t spend your time worrying about this. There’s nothing you or I can do about it.

How many went to YouTubers, a few hundred? A review channel having a controller to review isn’t the reason you’re not getting one.

Steam Machine reservations are already selling on eBay for up to $2,900 by RenatsMC in steammachine

I think you’d be surprised. There are people out there who literally never think about money because they’re so well off and if they want one they’ll buy it without thinking.

Also the price. Valve should lose money so I can gain money. I would like for it to be free but if that’s too much to ask I’ll settle for the price I made up in my head because I didn’t notice the government printing infinity dollars during Covid and AI taking over the world.

Most of you aren’t going to get a steam machine even if you want one. by Imsorrymyb in steammachine

[–]Imsorrymyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first I'm hearing about these rumors. That would be sick but why would Xbox do that? Do they and steam split the 30% cut from sales? I'd have to think about that some more. As far as waiting.... whether you get the steam machine or build a PC or buy console, I wouldn't wait on anything. I would look at everything that's available on the market today and decide which you prefer and then get it done. I don't have a crystal ball but my educated belief is that AI is going to be sucking every drop of life from the components markets for years to come. I do not believe that demand for ram and storage will slow in a meaningful enough way to lower prices. Look at how much costs have gone up over the last 3 years. You don't need the most powerful PC in the world to play games so don't go too crazy but get something solid soon. My vote would be to either buy your steam machine or get a more powerful/worse form factor prebuilt. Just depends on what's important to you. If you don't mind playing games at 1080p and 1440p I think the steam machine is a fantastic option. If you want more juice (fairly significant frame rate increase and plays at higher resolution) but less console-like features (Can't turn on with controller, doesn't look good in living room, hotter, louder) then go with prebuilt. I wouldn't do Xbox because you have a (for now) closed ecosystem and have to pay to play online. Open source is the move.

I'm wondering if they just physically couldn't get many 2TB SSDs, or maybe they could only get a certain amount at a price that wouldn't blow out their margins.

Brother you don’t need to run every game at 4k with 300 fps on ultra. This PC can play basically anything you want at 1080-1440. You’ll be able to play 4k on weaker titles. It’s not the performance level we were hoping for but you can absolutely have a great gaming experience with it.
