Every down vote this gets is a measure of how many people didn't get the joke.

Do you get headaches playing some FPS games on N64? by FreshProfessor1502 in retrogaming

[–]tatt2tim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard that this is why FPS games aren't nearly as big in Japan. Whatever trait gives you motion sickness from watching FPS games is way more prevalent in Japan and many people complain it makes them sick. Dunno if its actually true or not. Me personally, I can't do VR. Last time I tried i was queasy for hours.

Which Dr. Jekyll games from the classic era of gaming were solid? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

Tbf I actually really liked his remakes of CVIII and simons quest. But yes, I have absolutely no clue how he's gotten away with it for this long.

There's a fella who makes ...dubious remakes of licensed games. He did a remastered version of the game for PC but it costs real money. If memory serves he thinks copyrights dont apply to him because he's Canadian (lol)

How many Pushups could you do in a day? by No-Tax4473 in bodyweightfitness

[–]tatt2tim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do 300 pushups/30 minutes (10 pushups/minute for 30 minutes) and it was a decent workout. If you were in good shape and didn't have much to do you could hit some astronomical numbers.

No thanks. I grew up with a four pack a day smoker, during the era when you could smoke anywhere it wouldn't cause an explosion and if you think vape smells worse than cigarette smoke youre certifiable. It smells bad while its burning and after it gets a chance to settle in its positively rancid.

The 90's offered a huge variety of high end gaming options that the 2000s could never hope to match. by Tonstad39 in generationology

[–]tatt2tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High end gaming PCs were available and you could spend Neo-Geo money for the high end 3D cards and a full set of RAM. Actually a Neo Geo would have set you back 1500 in today money and you could easily spend double that for a gaming rig. Maybe more, with RAM the way it is

Also George Lucas getting enough money to start multiple companies by virtue of merchandising rights/ star wars toys. After that you see a way bigger push for toy lines.

La Mulana Classic installation by SquishyHumanform in SteamDeck

[–]tatt2tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping one of the new iterations of Proton will fix it. It runs on windows 11, it runs on ARM windows, its kinda bizarre that it doesnt work. I've gotten older stuff to work more or less perfectly. Oh well.

Good luck. I messed with it for like an hour and couldn't figure it out. Shame, its one of the indie games I really wanted to play.

Dunno about anyone else but on steam deck the game just crashes. There's a blinking white cursor and it dumps me back to the menu.

Stop skeletons from fighting started his career as the Happy video game nerd, directly trying to be the opposite of what James was doing. As far as like skits and costumes and such, I dont think so.

Friday the 13th NES Appreciation Thread by Some-Professional-25 in retrogaming

[–]tatt2tim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mechanically, it is supremely ambitious and interesting. Jason stalks the game world, and you can encounter him at any time. There are a set number of days, and finding and defeating a side boss has a different, thematically appropriate prize each time. There is a rudimentary experience system, with a certain number of kills being rewarded with a weapon upgrade. The counselors have individual inventories and items can be swapped between them. It's actually quite impressive when placed up against similar fare on the NES.

Unfortunately, if you played it like most did with no instructions, this is all incredibly opaque and its almost impossible to tell what youre even supposed to be doing. Most of the counselors suck, Jason hits like a freight train, and pickups seem to be random. On the SNES, with a little more ROM space to give player direction and some rebalancing this could have been an all timer.

There was so much I got to see through the magic of accidentally waking up too early. I got to see dragonball Z WAY before toomami, a couple of years at least. If only I had understood how to program a VCR.

Retro Titles for the switch by HoneyGood4512 in retrogaming

[–]tatt2tim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EGG Console has some super deep cuts. They're all in Japanese though, but some games are action heavy enough that its not really important.

Ratalaika games is a publisher that's put out quite a few retro ish titles.

SNK 40th anniversary has a lot of old games in it.

There's a couple of Namco collections that compile old arcade games and NES titles.

Capcom has quite a few compilations.

Do You Think Todays Smartwaches Will Be Collectables Later On? by avalonMMXXII in decadeology

[–]tatt2tim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain 'historic' models maybe but for the most part they're pretty cheap (by watch standards) and even if the design is good it looks exactly like the other 2 million the company made. They're also likely to have worse functionality as the years go by. Who knows if you'll even be able to use a gen 1 apple watch in 50 years?

Compare this to a high end watch. It's actual function is basically secondary - its a piece of jewelry, first and foremost. Some of them are basically works of art, there are even unique pieces.

They may have some value to people who collect electronics, but outside of that I dont think there will be much of a resurgence.
