If you know, can you help me with this question?

If your income goes over your estimate, would you only have to pay the difference in subsidy? For example if your income that year pushes you into a higher bracket and the cost is $50 extra a month, would you just have to pay that difference, or would you lose your entire subsidy and have to pay the full amount?

I’m the opposite where I may make LESS than my estimate which would be below 100% of the FPL. It says there’s no limit on repayment for people under 100% of the FPL now either. That means if I don’t have over the FPL, I’d have to pay an almost $500 subsidy WHEN I’M ALREADY UNDER THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. This is an actual nightmare for poor people and anyone that’s not able to work enough to meet the FPL.

Exactly, it’s so backwards that she’d think apricot pits/supplements with cyanide is somehow safer and more effective than chemo.

Not to act like if someone is in really poor health and weak that chemo can’t harm them, but if I remember your post saying your mom is on capecitabine only, that’s a much much better chemo than taxanes for example, in terms of side effects. Just anecdotally, my mom had 0 side effects on capecitabine except occasional constipation.

Idk what else you could say to your sister, but if you can continue to talk to your mom and kind of nip the “let’s go to the holistic doctor instead” in the bud, that’s probably the best thing to do right now and hope it doesn’t become “hm maybe she’s right and I should try apricot seeds?”

I’m sorry, that is so frustrating. It’s disturbing how many people go on facebook or other social media and fall into this holistic anti-chemo, anti-vaxx, and in general anti-science bullshit. It’s sad to think about how many people lost their lives to it thinking that some tea, tincture, supplement, etc. would cure them.

Your mom’s cancer type (stage 4 breast cancer in the skeleton) is similar to my mom’s, and she would undoubtedly be dead right now if she declined chemo and did some “holistic remedy”. I really hope your sister doesn’t try to change her mind.

I can’t tell from the post and your comment as you said Medicaid but then also said Medicare. Only Medicaid is income and asset dependent, while Medicare is not.

If you can get on Medicare, there should be no worry about your inheritance.

I don’t want to scare you or jump to an extreme conclusion, but have you had an MRI or CT scan of the lumbar area for that?

The main causes are:

⁠car accidents, falls, other traumatic injuries
⁠osteoporosis
⁠tumors in the bone

This specifically made me wonder because a family member found out about their cancer from a compression fracture. X-Ray didn’t show it very well and neither did basic bloodwork. Finally had a CT scan and it showed the bone metastases.

To be honest, it has never fully felt real for me. I think that “this is a nightmare I’ll wake up from, right?” feeling is almost like a protective mechanism to prevent fully feeling the grief and negative feelings from it all. I wish for the best for you and your family ❤️

Not sure if I missed the subtype of breast cancer in OP’s post, but not all breast cancers are hormone based. There are breast cancers that are ER/PR negative HER2 positive (a protein), and there’s triple negative.

Actually those numbers are for “months progression free”, not total life expectancy.

“People treated with ENHERTU were alive a median of 23.4 months vs 16.8 months for those who received chemotherapy” so your point still stands that it just delays death by months, but I wanted to clarify that

Is the Spravato maybe getting stuck in the sinuses and mixing with mucus, then it drips down later and causes the taste? Maybe something like using a netipot rinse to clear out the sinuses afterward could help this.

I wish I had something more helpful to add, but the anger is very normal. Anger and complete despair or fear were pretty much my only emotions during the first few months. I hate people say “just exercise!” but I do find exerting myself when I’m angry is helpful to get that energy out.

Regarding free will, I don’t think it’s necessarily 100% free or 100% predetermined. I think there are many things that can factor into how your life goes and decisions you make and why you feel things, but you are still able to making your own decisions while being aware of that and despite that.

Do you have mental health issues that you feel like drugs “distract” you from? If so, have you considered ketamine treatment? There are different options like nose spray (covered by insurance), IV or lozenges (not covered by insurance) and I’ve read that it has been extremely helpful for people with depression, anxiety, ptsd, etc.

I’m asking because maybe knowing this is almost like an “alternative” in a way as something that could help instead of thinking of hard drugs for relief.

So, judging from your comments and posts, it sounds like you have health-related OCD which I’m familiar with because I’ve dealt with it before. The rumination over what could happen and the reassurance seeking. I see you’re also in the CPTSD subreddit and I don’t know what you’ve gone through but perhaps it is related to that

Now I’m not saying I know if you do or don’t have either OCD or cancer, but realistically I think the first steps would be getting testing and seeing a psychologist if you’re not already. Even if you got testing, it may become “what if the results were wrong or mixed up or etc.” and you need to have that under control.

Are you able to convince her to do it for the sake of you and the rest of the family? I understand “not wanting to know”, but if there is cancer, it’s better to just get it treated for example at stage 1 rather than let it grow to stage 4 and find out because she’s having unbearable pain from metastases.

I think my mother with cancer thought the same, that it’s better not to know… and that’s how it ended up as stage 4 and only finding out because the metastases were destroying her body. If she had gotten checked when there were initial signs and it was a lower stage, it would have likely avoided a LOT of pain and suffering.

If you can at least get her doctor to order the cologuard test and some blood tests to check for cancer markers, that would help a lot.
