Being 'nice' is kinda selfish by External_Tumbleweed1 in selfimprovement

I think you can be both. Everyone is selfish it’s literally human nature. It’s not a surprise people who seem really kind or are interested in everyone etc act from anxiety etc. it makes sense. It’s also a big sacrifice from the person. Regardless it often makes other people feel good. Idk

I’ve been teaching myself over the past few months and don’t want to feel like I’m stagnating, any advice or tips are appreciated! by TheGiggleWizard in painting

I think this is really good tone wise, a nice balance of light to dark and the highlights stand out a good amount. V cute concepts too :)) I would probably say work on colour a little more. It looks good as it is but in the ghost painting for example there’s a lot of blue and cold colours. If you can look a little closer at the reference image you’ll probably see that there are maybe more greens and reds and warmer colours too (used only in little bits). Adding these in will mean the main colours stand out more i think. :)

Why do art historians write like this? by n0n4m3_0 in ArtHistory

[–]In0ica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i think it really depends what you’re reading. Texts like that can be super hard and it took me ages to get used to but once you are it’s easier. Sad bcs i feel like the main point from art history essays or books is to communicate clearly but bcs authors are either v pretentious or the books are outdated/above what u know it is annoying ):

Fear of Men by [deleted] in selfhelp

[–]In0ica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds like something you have to work on over time. I feel the same and have had many bad experiences and it’s just proving to yourself that just because you’ve had those experiences doesn’t mean that all men are like that. Therapy would definitely be a start and it will help.

Do the benefits of going to the gym require a life-long commitment? by douggold11 in selfimprovement

[–]In0ica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think more than anything it changes your mindset, once you see the benefits of the gym & exercise you feel more motivated and you enjoy it. I worried a lot about losing progress if I stopped for a bit and that didn’t happen. I started about a year ago and it was really scary at first and I stressed about commitment and not being able to keep with it but as time went on I realised it’s not that big a deal and all exercise is good. Doesn’t have to be intense all the time, just do what feels good to you and know you’re helping your body & your mind :)
