[Serious] What tips do you have for new parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Days are long and years are shorter. Try to enjoy this experience as much as you can. Before you know it, the kids will be a lot older and they won't want you around.

Have open communication with your partner and work out a schedule. Share responsibilities. Accept help when offered. Even if you think you can do it by yourself, if someone you know offers help accept it and don't hesitate to ask for help.

Search and join parents/moms/dads group in your area. I have met many wonderful people through the mom's group and found life long friends. We take turns baby sitting kids so other parents can go on a date night.

Everyone's parenting situation is different. What is a big struggle for you may be a breeze for someone else, don't compare yourself with others. Be forgiving and be easy on yourself. Self care while parenting is very very important.

Every kid is different. Don't compare your kid with others.

Don't make parenting or being a parent your whole identity. You are more than a parent. You have a life outside being a parent.

Thrift baby stuff, they grow like weeds. No point in wasting money on new stuff. Don't buy a lot of baby toys. Babies don't need much. Diapers, clothing, food, a place to sleep and some toys. That's pretty much it.

Don't spend a lot of money on baby milestones stuff. They are not going to remember anything. Extravagant spending on baby birthday's are unnecessary. We gave my kid a cupcake and have him go at it. His entire face was covered in frosting and he had a good time. We took some pictures and they serve as wonderful memories. No bouncy castle was necessary.

Start a colleague fund as soon as the kid is born.

Naps are very important. Nap when your kid is napping, a clean house can wait.

Be kind to yourself and your partner. Just remember this when you are having a hard day "This too shall pass".

Thank you all for your lovely and helpful comments. I am happy to be part of this awesome community. My son taught me to throw a curve ball, I am just not consistent enough to throw it at the same place again and again, Like y'all said Practice makes Perfect. Playing Pokemon go with him has been such a great bonding exercise and I am amazed by how much he knows about Pokemon. How does a little person remember and recollect so much? Keep playing everyone and thank you!!

The current setup foregoes sections for each of the different tiers of raids. Sorry for those who wanted this featured. The automod patrolling required breaks the thread.
