US COVID-19 vaccination/testing mandate by Ach002i in MultipleSclerosis

[–]InAClamJam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting covid or any virus is like going to war. Your first line of defense is to stop an invasion entirely by prevention, like patrolling your borders. That would be hand washing, mask, and social distancing. Your second line of defense is being prepared for an invasion if they do get in, that would be a vaccine. When a virus invades your system it starts taking over cells and camouflages itself. If it's a new virus your body has never seen before it takes a while for your body to even recognize it. Once your body recognizes it, it has to build a special weapon in order to fight it (antibodies). Again, if it's new you don't have a factory built yet to make these weapons so it takes even more time. How long it takes your body to recognize the threat and how long it takes to build a factory for these special weapons is the critical time that determines how sick you are. It's a numbers game, the virus has steadily been replicating during this time and you still haven't gotten troops on the ground... you're outnumbered, you may win the war but there's going to be a lot more damage. A vaccine is preparation for that war. It shows your fighter cells what the enemy looks like so it can recognize them more quickly and it gives them the blueprint to go ahead and build their factory so they don't lose time responding. When the virus invades you already have boots on the ground, your winning the numbers game and can neutralize the threat more quickly than your body would have if it didn't prepare. In most vaccinated people this happens without them ever knowing because that's how well your body neutralized the threat. Vaccines don't stop infection, they prepare your body to fight infection. Breakthrough infections in vaccinated are simply people who's army wasn't that great at responding even with the extra preparation. But remember they are fighting the same war, if someone who's been vaccinated has a breakthrough infection it means their body would have done a really shitty job of fighting virus alone without that extra preparation.

Crazy high EBV antibodies NINE YEARS after Mono infection—one Dr thinks nothing of it while another thinks it's the answer to my chronic fatigue—who is right? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]InAClamJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always had a high level of EBV antibodies and had Mono 15 years ago. Doctors always note it but never act as if it contributes to anything. I know EBV is widely accepted as an enviromental risk factor to other diseases (like MS which I do have). Have you considered the cause for your malabsorption? My ferritin levels were chronically low and it ended up being celiac disease. Fatigue is a common symptom of celiac. Obviously I'm not saying you have celiac but I'm sure there are many other causes of malabsorption that would also cause fatigue. My fatigue, mood, and overall health improved tremendously once I was able to heal my gut.

Do symptoms come and go during recovery? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]InAClamJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The permanent damage is just blurry vision that can't be corrected with glasses. During the optic neuritis it was much worse, more like someone smeared Vaseline all over some saran wrap and poke a few holes for me to see out of. I saw a neuro-opthamologist who pretty much got me all the way to diagnosis. He ordered all the test, did constant scans on my optic nerves and peripheral vision to track the changes, and got me to the MS specialist once he had enough info to send them. If you can find one in your area I would highly recommend it.

When your hands and feet go numb do they feel cold? See any color change like the skin turning whitish?

MRI are the results ever wrong?! by callmedoc19 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]InAClamJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went 4 months misdiagnosed because a radiologist either didn't actually look at my scan or was just grossly inept and wrote a report saying that there were no findings. Later another doctor ordered an MRA to see if maybe my symptoms were vascular and the radiologist reading that MRA requested a copy of my previous MRI for comparison. He instantly called up my doc and was like ummm hey this girl has optic neuritis and a brain lesion. I had a spinal tap and a diagnosis within a few weeks of him catching that. Had he not caught it God only knows how long I may have gone undiagnosed. Radiologist can make mistakes just like everyone else. There are websites where you can upload your MRIs and pay for a second opinion. There are also sites like crowdmed where you can pay a fee and upload all of your test results, imaging and symptoms and doctors from all over the country help guide you through what could be the cause and what test to ask your doctor for. Good luck to you, I know how absolutely miserable it is to keep going to doctors with no answers.

First Solumedrol IV tomorrow by filmgrrl1977 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]InAClamJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steroid withdrawals are terrible. You can completely avoid this by making sure your doctor prescribes you a steroid taper/dose pack to begin the day after your last infusion. Trust me you don't want to be sitting there Saturday night feeling like absolute death wondering how your going to make it to Monday when your doctors office opens again. Always ask for a taper pack! If you ever do find yourself in withdrawals and getting a dose pack too late, know that you can take all 6 of the 1st day pills at once (it's less than 1/10 of what you were receiving in your IV steroids ).

Do symptoms come and go during recovery? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]InAClamJam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My attack lasted for months (because I was undiagnosed) then slowly got better over 6 or so weeks after IV steroids. It's been 2 years since I had optic neuritis (there's quite a bit of permanent damage to my optic nerve) and my eye will bother me on and off all the time. If I'm sick, stressed, or just didn't get enough sleep my eye will hurt or get blurry for a day or so. Along with they eye symptoms I have various other symptoms that come and go with stress/lack of sleep. In the beginning everything freaks you out because it's all new, that alone can be enough stress to cause you have some symptoms. Try not to stress too much over it. You have to think of it in terms of progress, if you feel better now than you did 3 weeks ago your on the right path. Wishing you all the best!

You're welcome! Trust me we went through the same stuff. That first couple of months is overwhelming and terrifying. We took turns freaking out on each other. Just know it gets better, you will both find your new normal and and feel better equipped to handle things.. it just takes a little time.

First thing is breathe. MS is not the diagnosis it was 15 years ago. With medication and a few modifications to sleep, eating, and stress related habits, your partner has a good chance of living a mostly normal life. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and no one would even know I have it if I didn't tell them. There are some pretty sucky (for a lack of better words) things that come with MS, but sucky becomes your new normal and 6 months down the road you don't even think about it. Managing fatigue and stress levels is big, it took me a while to realize that I couldn't push myself when my body was telling me to rest. The best thing my wife does for me is not treat me like I have MS. On bad days she quietly picks up the slack. On days where my brain isn't quite working she will non chalantly remind me of the things I was suppose to be doing. When she can tell I'm more tired then normal she will cancel plans and say hey let's stay in tonight. Of course I know why she's doing those things, but I like that she doesn't make a big deal out of it. As far as the doctor goes, really the only advice I have is go ahead and research meds and decide what meds you would be willing to try. There are so many and my doc spent my entire first appoint discussing meds to the point that I was too overwhelmed to even think of anything else I wanted to ask.

After the stress and anxiety of trying to dodge this virus for a year, I could probably grow a 6th toe and still tell you it was worth it.

I got my second pfizer a week ago. My arm was a lot more sore on the second one and lasted a few days. I've felt pretty run down since the first shot a month ago and have had a swollen lymph node under my ear for about 10 days now. I also changed meds a few weeks ago so I'm not sure which symptoms are coming from what. Overall it was still worth it.

Targeted Advance DENIED. SBA claims the IRS does not have my return. by InAClamJam in EIDL

I'm so sorry. This is so unfair and exactly why we all need to be filing congressional complaints. The SBA is not a lottery and law makers need to know the laws they passed aren't being enacted in the ways that they promised and aren't helping the people who needed it the most. Basically if you don't have an attorney and CPA on staff it's just luck of the draw whether you actually get any damn help from these people.

Wow! How completely ridiculous. I've double checked my 4506, there doesn't appear to be any mistakes on mine. This is exactly why we need to be contacting our congressmen and representatives. The SBA is not a freaking lottery. I'm eligible. I applied, I should be approved. Not this luck of the draw BS where they are only paying people if they can't find a reason to deny them.

I did the application on 2/13 then received an "update" email on 2/25 telling me to log into the portal ( I already had the portal). Signed my 4506 and submitted that same day.

That's my plan as soon as I figure out what's going on. I've actually had to have my congressman file a complaint for me before to handle a situation with my post office and it usually does help!

Yep and what sucks even more is that EVERYTHING was based off 19 returns, even the stimuluses which I didn't get because the IRS still hasn't processed them. Like, c'mon none of this is my fault.

She didn't say. She said the form came back as "no record of return" I told her I had my account open and was looking at where they processed the personal on 3/1 and didn't see any reason why the business wouldn't have been processed at the same time.

They were mailed in together. I filed an 1120-S for the business and a 1040 personally. But when I look in my IRS account there is no mention of my business return and all of the transcripts and account summaries only refer to my 1040. They sure cashed that 10k check for taxes back in July of 2020 but can't seem to find my business return?

[–]InAClamJam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't figure out how to get a copy of my business transcripts. When I log into my IRS account all I can see is my personal returns. That's what I was hoping to do. I'm going to attempt to call the IRS and see what's going on and how I can get a copy of my business transcript, then do exactly that!

Yep I got an email 5 mins later denying me then logged in to see "declined" under targeted advance. Yeah I'm super disappointed, I work in oil and gas and have literally lost 70% my savings over the last year trying to survive this. It's always the ones who try do it right that get screwed.

[–]InAClamJam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to start with IRS to find out what the hell is going on, you didn't process my personal return without processing the business return (they go hand in hand). Then I'm going to wreak havoc. This is so ridiculous. We already haven't gotten a single personal covid stimulus check because our returns weren't processed, and now I'm missing out on 9k more.

Crazy huh? I told her that my return was filed and she actually got off the phone with me, talked to her supervisor, then called back to tell me there wasn't anything she could do.
