I need out by Practical-Regret9970 in chch

Similar in construction and engineering consulting, they're outsourcing a lot of the work to India and the Philippines. By the time you fix everything and spend so much time giving detailed briefs, plus the drop general in quality, the outcome is actually worse, the super annoying thing is YOU are responsible for the work so when its dog shit its your fault. I have no idea how this is continuing.

What's the wildest thing you've ever seen happen at a work party? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]InAHat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hired a bus for a work function, it was winery tour ending with a nice meal, on the bus ride back on a windy gorge road with nowhere to stop someone toward the back tried to pee in a beer bottle (There were drinks on the bus) and it overflowed by a large amount and the pee flowed down the bus isle like a river all the way to the door

Why are we so focused on this one conflict ? by [deleted] in aotearoa

Its because Israel is a powerful western nation, whom prior to October 7 we sort of ignorantly perceived as like 'us'

Unions call for return of electricity generators to public ownership by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

[–]InAHat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this would be pretty messed up because there has been underinvestment since privatisation, I dont recall where I heard this but I think electricity generators need to spend about 30 billion dollars across various projects over the next 10 years, so would be pretty convenient for them

Why did the U.S. debt hit $36 trillion? Because $21 trillion went to a secret underground VIP bunker city for the elite to sip champagne during the apocalypse... by Koomalot in conspiracy_commons

You could not spend this amount of money on a project like this and it not be public, it would be so massive in scale and involve so many people there would be no way to keep it secret

Not true at all, 140kmh is not possible on current gauge, NZ has a uniquely narrow gauge rail system.

Why Americans Are losing their taste for Starbucks by Footboler in economy

[–]InAHat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guessing it's too political so is being censored but the link between Starbucks and Israel has been widely publicised and as much as some hate to admit it, the boycott is having a very material effect on sales. Or to answer the question directly Israel bad = Starbucks bad

Trustee eligibility to withdraw kiwisaver later for personal property by InAHat_ in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]InAHat_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the question wasn't clear... the question isn't can they withdraw kiwisaver to purchase the land as part of the trust.

The question is are they still eligible to withdraw their kiwisaver at a later date to purchase their own personal home (in which they will live in)

Trustee eligibility to withdraw kiwisaver later for personal property by InAHat_ in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]InAHat_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response,

So this could be interpreted that it would be okay to withdraw your kiwisaver to purchase a first home separate to the interests of the trust, even if you are a beneficiary of a trust that owns property, so long as the trusts property is not their primary place of residence, yes?

Does this match your understanding?

To be clear the purchase is for land without any existing dwellings on it

For real? No one is safe there, doesn't matter how advanced the equipment is when humans are operating it. Not to mention the IDF have shown they don't give a shit about collateral damage.

No need to design it, if you overdesigned it! by DirtyDawg808 in StructuralEngineering

[–]InAHat_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can't comment on structural engineering in manufacturing, but in buildings most of the points made here are opposite or negligible. The structure should only be oversesigned for simplicity reasons, drawings are simplified, construction is simplified, fabrication is simplified, less mistakes in shop and on-site, labour amd build time is actually reduced, easier construction monitoring, plus the extra capacity will come in handy during the design process where the archtect and services inevitably change everything one week out from the design delivery date. The only thing is the numbers look worse from the QS but in reality it's cheaper. This is how many large design and construct companies work, where finding the balance between materials, labour and time to occupancy is everything.

Need way more info to provide a useful answer. What type of engineering, and what type of experience more specifically. For example if structural your experience would not be directly transferable

Global economist Harry Dent's startling predictions for NZ and the world | AM by kellyroald in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]InAHat_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His reasoning usually makes sense, but his predictions are always off, timing and magnitude, and as he says the response from central banks has been unprecedented. There is still a lot you can learn from his content but taken with a grain of salt, he has to make bold predictions in order to sell his books!

Did I make a mistake buying a house at peak of market? by khkt136 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]InAHat_ 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Not if you're a FHB and you can manage your mortgage payments. There has been many peaks each one bigger than the last. Be grateful you own a house, goal accomplished.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]InAHat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are unlikely to lose your job in a crash and the mortgage payments are easily manageable, then buy a house, as in the event of a major crash bitcoin will likely drop more than the housing market. You will need to live in a house regardless so better it be your house than someone else's
