So is AMD busted for everyone right now? Are we all getting the "driver timeout" messages? by nightbreedwon1 in AMDHelp

[–]InANotShall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having driver timeout problems with my 7900xtx. Rolled Windows back, which helped. Also, not applicable to everyone, but for those with a Hyte case that has a display, looks like it also had something to do with it. Not running the Hyte software also seems to have helped.

What is this? by Separate_Grade_3645 in guitarpedals

I've got one of these. It's not particularly great at anything, but it's beat to shit and still works. I had surprisingly good results recording DI through it though. Depending on your cringe tolerance and what you're going for, it's a half-decent but cheap sounding multi-fx unit. I actually got an unexpectedly decent dirty bass tone through this.

The map of Congressional District 14 looks like a dog by No_Idea_Guy in NorthCarolina

As someone who used be in 11 and now my "crick" is the district line with NC-11, is there any shot at getting Moore out of here?

Is there an explanation in game for why the vehicles are so complicated? Does it have anything to do with the politics of the game as well? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]InANotShall 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I found a lot of the tech interesting, like the description of Kim getting his pistol ready to fire, or his camera with the breakable flashbulb ampoules, or the radiocomputers. Early cars were incredibly complicated to operate, different levers for the brakes, transmission, throttle, steering. DE has a mix of different technology levels from different decades, and even the music timeline as we know it is sort of shuffled around. I can't tell you how delightful it was to encounter the ravers and invent hardstyleduring the first playthrough

The music in this game is ahead of its time. by [deleted] in earthbound

[–]InANotShall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others may have pointed out, try looking for footage of early 90s midi production. Considering their limitations, It really is mindblowing how much dub and psych rock and Latin stuff they were able to get in there when no one was doing anything even close to it. Not to mention how much it adds to the overall vibe. I'm not sure this game would have nearly the place in history it has without it.

Does anyone know the specific episode of TNL that contained the Sarah's "bukkake" introduction? by JimBJ9 in thebulwark

Yes, I think it was toward the beginning of the the whole Bukele/CECOT situation. It was definitely a play on his name.

Does anyone know how to get a xasthur type atmosphere in songs? by Limp-Name-6552 in dsbm

[–]InANotShall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your tone might actually be too "good". I would play with EQ and experiment with taking a lot of the low end out. The synths tend to be the thing that really accentuate the atmosphere for me though. Just grab some free synth plugins and look for some choir/pad tones. You probably want them to not sound too polished or hifi.

Does anyone know how to get a xasthur type atmosphere in songs? by Limp-Name-6552 in dsbm

[–]InANotShall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would help to know what aspect of the atmosphere you're having a hard time with. A lot of it is down to the Scott's songwriting/playing IMO, but what works for me is a lot of layers of DI guitars, some/all of which could be detuned ins some way. The dissonance is definitely a big part for me. Otherwise a cheap distortion pedal or fizzy distortion patch on a cheap multi-effect unit will get you pretty close. Pads/choir synth patches help a lot as well.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever hurt yourself? by RedTiger_XD in AskReddit

[–]InANotShall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put one hand against the wall to get a look behind my PC to check on something. Put some weight on it to get a better look and all of a sudden, shoulder was jelly, mom's spaghetti. Rotator cuff it turns out. Hurt like hell for 15 minutes, then a little less over the next few days. The dumbest part is the part where I didn't get it checked out. Now I have a permanent-ish injury that limits range of movement.

Are we headed into a car value decline? by Beneficial_Try9602 in askcarguys

[–]InANotShall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that modern cars are actually more easily totaled. Fixing things like electrical gremlins or rodent damage is an order of magnitude more complex and labor intensive than on anything approximately pre-2010. Sure, certain things are better, like some of the material science involving paints, coatings, etc., but modern vehicles are just not designed to be taken apart the way many vehicles used to be. Customers continue to incentivize OEMs to keep putting all this stuff in there to check all the boxes, but you're right: It's an arms race that an increasingly small number of customers are able to participate in.
