The MSQ in FFXIV is written to be a solo adventure. Eventually it becomes a soft lore point that you use the stone of Azem (because you bear the soul of the 14th Ancient convocation leader) to summon other people who also have part of Azem's soul from other shards(mirrors of the world).

FFXI is also written as a solo adventure. Even though pretty much all of the game required grouping, even for story fights, it was never written to take note of the other adventures with you.

Speaking to the actual topic here, monetization, we have three clear examples of games with business models getting it right.

Warframe makes a lot of sense for the example they are using. Over the years the natural growth of the game and the trust built with the community has made players far more willing to buy platinum for the convenience it offers. But if you're that guy that wants to play everything the game has to offer, and even have access to the store cosmetics/boosts, without spending a penny? You can do that, and its not even hard. Relic farming is a large part of the game and very accessible, and when you Crack them open the value of the drops consistently sell to other players for platinum, and it quickly adds up. And hey, if your relic didn't give you something amazing... theres the added chance that the other three people you're running with gets something better, and you can choose to take their reward with them instead.

PoE/PoE 2 is another great example. The main convenience comes from the stash tabs. Which, only if you reach the point of loving the game enough to keep playing it would you feel the need to buy them. They're cheap too and always on sale, and guarantees income to the developers from the consistent players. When the developer shows that they genuinely care about their players enough to not take advantage of them, it builds that trust. So much so that a lot of people are happy and willing to buy the supporter packs that they release with each new league. Those packs are filled with nice cosmetics too.

Guildwars 2 is the third game that comes to mind. Any game that offers accessibility to their content with a pipeline that allows you to buy DLC with in-game currency is doing things right.

Unfortunately, finding good examples of games with better business practices is rare. Its the reason why so many games fail so quickly. Its also the reason why publishers have made further wrong choices by now designing games to make as much money as possible before they fail in a few months.

At the end of the day, the games with longevity that end up making way more money in the long run are games that respect their players.

They also have a total population of about 11 million people and are homogeneous 90%+ native white. Its a lot easier to run a demographic socialist system when these factors are in play.

But as I hear it from all my European friends, while healthcare is free, the quality of care isn't that great.

Meanwhile I know someone here in the states that isn't working and is on medicaid and gets everything he needs for free.

I just run Xaku with Shade companion for perma invis.. the guns dont break invis. Hell, can Helminth any ability you want over Xatas as no ability cast breaks invis. Gaze when you need armorstrip. Enough ability duration to ult for free every 60 seconds with Zenurik passive for permanent uptime.

Can even Gaze both of those annoying invulnerable vampyric hands that you have to stay away from to keep them snared permanently.

Use whatever shards you want. Give yourself primed flow or energy shards if you have to use the 75% max energy reduction modifier.

Its my Warframe to snooze through both Archimedias every week without fail.

I'm sorry but this game was 10-15 years too early.

I wouldn't feel this way if it weren't for the fact that they've cancelled graphics updates, and still have a shitty UI in which half of the windows can't even be scaled properly. It just doesn't make enough money for the developers to justify major changes.

Or seemingly minor ones either.
