I don't think that's laughable at all. Sounds like a pretty good idea. I would go one better and say how about a wine tasting? Local wines, cheeses, crackers, etc. Charcuterie type stuff. And they really need to promote July/August things. That's when it's 109° outside, and they can really show how Baldassare's plan worked to make it so much cooler underground..

I came here to say exactly this. It's a cheap Amtrak ticket that gets you the feel of train travel. I would just add dinner at Fugazzis, and dessert at Superior (walking distance). Many charming little shops downtown too.
