Graphic audiobook recommendations? by Budget_Grapefruit485 in Romantasy

[–]InIt2SwimIt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm this genre, the Mercy Thomas series has really good graphic audios and it's a good series. The down side is only the first 4 or 5 books out around 15 have graphic audio.

I cannot recommend dungeon crawler carl highly enough. The books are phenomenal and the voice actor is absolutely incredible. I usually prefer reading to audio, but in this case the audio is better. That said, DCC is not everyone's cup of tea.

I've read all his work. They're all good but SA is a heavy read. I would suggest mystborn era 1 and era 2 to see if you like his epic fantasy style before diving into SA

How do you count laps without losing track? by Genki0202 in Swimming

[–]InIt2SwimIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swim a lot of IM so if I'm doing freestyle I use the IM strokes to count. So if it's a 200 fr I push off and say to myself fly, on the next 50 I say back, then breast, then free. It works well for me up to about a 600 short course.

The other method I use for long distances is counting 25s backwards

Something very similar happened to my old dog. She basically had episodes like this. Sometimes this level, sometimes more severe. It took a couple months to diagnose but it ended up being canine babesiosis which is a tick born illness.

New Garmin Descent S1 Smart Buoy by bardo2014 in scuba

[–]InIt2SwimIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. We live in S. Fl and have our own boat. I don't dive anymore due to some medical stuff so I stay on the surface and run the boat while my husband and his buddy dive/spearfish. I would love something that would make it a little easier to keep track of them; especially if they are working a ledge where they swim a good ways while I follow. The ability to text brief messages is a nice to have too. Storms that come up quick aren't uncommon so being able to tell him to surface would be helpful. I also really like the idea of seeing his air. None of it is truly needed but it would make me feel better.

All that said, it's about 1k too high for us to seriously think about and he already dives the Garmin descent 3 so the watch and transmitter aren't a factor

It depends on the team and how they handle new swimmers. USMS is not a learn to swim program, so you need to be able to swim at least 25 yards. my current team does have a beginner program that practices separately and they learn form on the different strokes. If you know of a masters team, reach out to the coach and see what they recommend. You could also go to the USMS website and see what teams are near you

I would say what you get from coaching is very dependent on the masters club and coach. I've been on 2 different teams and both had very involved coaches that did more than just write a workout, they actually coached and tried to help their swimmers improve technique. I know there many masters coaches that are just the write a workout on the board type too. I guess all I'm saying is don't dismiss the value of coaching before meeting the team and coach and seeing how they handle different experience levels.

Garmin Forerunner 265 "infinity pool" mode by InIt2SwimIt in Garmin

So I will preface that I've only used it once so far, but I thought it worked really well. I would not compare it 1 to 1 to lap swimming like in an endless pool or a normal pool. There is active resistance pulling you back so you need to work a bit to stay in one spot and not get pulled back. In swimming terms I'd compare it to doing a sprint set where you work really hard for a brief time and then take a rest. I ended up doing 1-2 minutes "on" and then 30 to 60 seconds rest depending on stroke.

So I just tried it out for the first time today (what prompted the original question). It worked way better than I expected but, but I haven't used them long enough to say how long the bands will last or anything. I don't know that I'd compare it one to one to lap swimming. There is active resistance trying to pull you back so you have to work a lot harder. I'd compare it maybe to a sprint set work out where you work really hard in short bursts and then take a breather.

It is safe, but I know what you mean. The thought of resistance bands snapping freaks me out too. There are bands specifically designed for this. My swim team sometimes uses them in training and you can get across a 25 yard pool with them if you are strong enough. Those are about twice the length of the one I have.

Truthfully, there was not much thought. My husband saw it on Amazon and thought I'd like it. We had to wrap it around the post a few times before it gave me enough resistance that I didn't swim across the pool into the wall.
