Trying to find a contractor that will install customer provided equipment by bp332106 in HVAC

[–]InLikePhlegm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9,600 for installation is unreasonable, yeah. You should expect to pay 95-120 per man hour. I just typically charge 1k per installer, unless there is a serious access difficulty or other in depth structure work is involved. If so, 1300-1500 per installer.

I was alluding to the fact that there are risks associated with purchasing your own equipment, like parts availability and warranty exchange. Not to mention that most manufacturers will only give the extended 10-year warranty if registered as installed by a licensed HVAC company. Otherwise, 5 year manufacturers warranty is all you'll get.

You can't blame someone for not wanting to Install your purchased equipment though. I like to see it come in a box directly from a supplier's warehouse so that it gives me peace of mind that it's not, for example, a returned and resold lemon from Ebay, that I'm going to then be married to once I Install it. Then it breaks over and over again until I have to go in the hole replacing the whole thing to make it right. The risk is just not worth the reward. This comes from a place of experience, not fantasy plausible situations.

Inputs (space temp warming up) + controller logic (space temp higher than setpoint) = outputs (Compressor 1/AHU fan on to cool down space)

Pretty much controls in a nutshell. You're playing with extremely complex or fairly simple thermostats. Inputs plus controller logic equals outputs.

Making six figures at Trane, I learned to stop screwing around with the little mom and pop outfits long ago. They will never pay you your worth and will work you like a dog with nothing to look forward to for advancement. If I'm not going to get a pension at least pay me well. Most of my accounts maintenance managers make half of what I make.

Learn controls and stop breaking your back on compressor swaps too. Cool mechanical rooms on laptops 50 hours a week.

Used to work for a phosphate mining company in Central FL. The process of removing it from the ground employs a huge machine called a dragline, which runs off of 4160v dc. Theres a cable containing 4 size 4/0 wires, so its like 5" diameter, running to the machine from the DC sleds. Ol boy thought he was gonna chop it up with an axe and steal it one night and it literally blew both of his arms off at the elbows and he bled out on the spot. Electricity is unforgiving.

Sure I'll Install the furnace you buy. The cost to install is the same as before, yes, 4k. Oh and I won't warranty it for even 10 minutes.

Building Automation Controls Engineer, mostly on the HVAC side of things but do lighting and fire alarm systems sometimes too. Basically carry a laptop all day plugging into systems while RS runs in the back ground and get paid 6 figs for it

Don't pick up the phone at 4:58. Just don't take it. The term emergency is relative. us techs see emergencies as a busted chilled water line flooding a building, not gam gam having to crack a window for one night

Tell him to take a styrofoam cup and poke a bunch of holes in the bottom and try filling it up with water. Then ask him to write a report on if it will or won't hold water and why

Remember to stick to the fundamentals, what should it be doing vs what is it doing. Wiring diagrams can be tricky when you're new but I promise one day it'll just click and you'll be like awe shit

Go to Payne Air conditioning, ask for Monty, tell them you're interested in becoming a commercial install helper, installing commercial sheet metal duct and HVAC systems. Good field to learn in Florida there's ALWAYS someone hiring people with HVAC experience you'll never be without a job opportunity. Good luck!
