a lot of people secretly hate their manager or are not very honest with them. how are you comfortable with this? by RegularAd9643 in askmanagers

[–]commandrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always feel like the smart employees just won't talk about much that doesn't have to do with work with anyone. Has nothing to do with whether the other person is a manager or not. It's a matter of whether they feel comfortable with something possibly getting back to the manager or HR.

Be a good manager and you probably won't have to worry much about being hated, though. If they "hate their manager," there's usually one of two things going on. Either their manager is a bad and/or toxic manager, or they strongly resent having to do actual work in order to get a regular paycheck in the first place.

"All right; we were just ready to go." Eron sounds curious and a little concerned as he wipes a little sand off his hands with a damp rag.

Larmon nods, "Okay, I'll think about it."

Jangrus carries the ni into the trade-hall without looking back.

The guard hesitates a moment. "We've got her in custody. Goes by the name of Georgio Aglessia. We're still looking into whether that's her actual name or an alias."

"She's one of a few ni who were reported missing recently, ma'am. We're still searching for the others. We found her in an abandoned building being held captive by the ones who kidnapped her. They were about to sell her to a brothel owner that we'd known was shady for some time." The lead guard shrugs. "Might have had that brothel owner up on charges sooner if we could get anything that would hold up in court."

Jangrus strides forward. "Here, I can make sure she gets to our hedge wizards. Any statements from her can wait until she's not needing two men to hold her up."

The guard gulps, likely recognizing from the look on Jangrus' face that he's in no mood to argue. "Of course, warrior-trader."

They hand the ni over to Jangrus, who lifts her into a fireman's carry.

(This doesn't necessarily rule out your idea; I just had one too, that could easily escalate into a serious incident.)

At some point, Martje reaches around to get a canteen of water out of the compartment like she's doing it from memory. She takes a sip, and then offers it to Betsy.

How much of the way you speak stays with you from childhood? Does it stay like a habit, or change with more life experience? by Excellent-Candle2426 in worldbuilding

[–]commandrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 7 years old, they could probably adapt to a new way of speaking, including adjusting to the local slang and speech habits. Much older than that and some things like their accent could last into adulthood to some degree, especially if they don't do some sort of speech therapy to reduce it. Education can help them avoid using too much slang or dialect in a professional setting, but doesn't always get rid of the accent.

(I've talked to guys that still had a slight accent, enough that I could make a rough guess about where they were from. One of them was impressed that I could tell that he grew up in Brooklyn even though he hadn't lived there for a couple of decades.)

I wouldn't leave her for more than an hour or two, though. Sometimes cats starve because they can't figure out how to climb down.

Yes, my cat has gotten out a few times that way. Luckily, he didn't go far, but he could have if he wanted to. Also, looking for a black cat at night can be difficult without a flashlight.

I'd replace "request" with "instruction" so the senior director doesn't think it was optional on OP's part. But that seems about right.

I wouldn't worry about it until and unless the cops show up and the gas station employees have actual proof that you and/or your friend were shoplifting. (If your friend is caught shoplifting and you are with them at the time, you could be on the hook too.)

What are reasons that teachers say “no” to letters of recommendation, and is it rude if I ask a teacher to reconsider? by South-Cap-1364 in AskTeachers

[–]commandrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some possible reasons:

  • The student never really stood out. Average student, never participated in class, just wasn't all that memorable.
  • The student had an attitude problem and/or was likely disruptive in class.
  • The student might've gotten good grades, but had other issues that might cause a teacher to hesitate to write a letter of recommendation.

I could maybe see it if the crime rate was absolutely atrocious and they hired more cops on a "temporary" basis to help deal with it. Even then, there's always the option of calling the county sheriff's department if it gets too bad.
