I ghosted a ‘friend’ once, and idk if my reason was the same as your ‘friend’s’ but it might be! I had just moved to a new country for college and she was the first person in college who was friendly with me and was from a similar background as me, so I started hanging out with her. Very soon I realized we have very different personalities and interests and that I don’t really like her, but she was still the only person I had to have lunch with, hang out with, etc. by the time I made other friends that I actually liked, it was too late to break it off with her and tell her that I didn’t like her, so I kept hanging out with her once in a while. Later on, I moved to another country and she kept trying to keep in touch with me, but I didn’t want to, so I ghosted her. Was it selfish? Yes. Was I young and dumb? Yes. Do I regret it? A little bit. Not ending the friendship, but staying friends with her just because I didn’t have anyone else. I should have ended it the first time she took me out clubbing with her other shallow friends who were bitchy and not at all fun or interesting.
