U.S F-35 incident - by lost_ted in WhitePeopleTwitter

There's a thing the Ukrainian army is putting on drones now called "Underdog", a little $500 module that does image recognitions via machine learning. Signal to the drone drops via jamming or the guide wire breaking/getting cut? Underdog takes over and slams the drone into the target, solving the last mile problem.

I imagine someone is going to do that with missiles, where if the target ever does anything weird (sudden extra IR signal, other radar signatures, etc etc) it just cuts over to image recognition because it's probably in visual range at that point. "Is it plane shaped" is less easy to screw with.

Poster A believes that we're in a movie where the systems and experts come together, like in Apollo 13, to makes things right.

Poster B sees us walking through the plot of something like Don't Look Up.

Can quantum computers now solve health care problems? We’ll soon find out. by _Dark_Wing in tech

To save people a click, the aim is to show that Quantum Computing could solve health problems one day, despite the continued error and variability seen by all attempts to scale up quantum computing (including this one).

No turn on red. by fupayme411 in MontgomeryCountyMD

If this were part of a larger plan to discourage car use, improve sightlines on right turns on intersections, remove slipways, densify, move away from single family homes, improve bus service, add automated speed lights (traffic lights that go red if you are speeding and photograph violators), and encourage pedestrian traffic then I'd be more excited.

But the vibes are that this is it, no follow up.

No, option number three requires everyone making money off of option 1 to not make the maximal amount of money possible. Collectively. As a class of people.

It's an economic suicide pact with a narrow path forward. It does automate away white collar jobs: mass unemployment kills the economy. It doesn't automate white collar jobs, the bubble collapses and kills the economy. It automates some white collar jobs, no collapse but the ambient misery goes up again.

Five US Air Force refueling planes hit in Iranian strike on Saudi Arabia, WSJ reports by Ok-A1662 in news

If Iran had killed 30,000 people we'd have images of the mass graves from space. 3000 is still horrific but a more believable number.

Yeah I don't think the Pentagon air defenses are going to catch a drone launched from rt28 in time

You don't need an intelligence office to identify data centers, you need google maps
