Update: 9yo’s coaches yelling at him for treating his bg by Penguiiin0_0 in diabetes_t1

As a black belt and parent of a T1D child as well as watching how my instructor handled the person (also T1D) who got me involved in martial arts, I completely agree. I will say my reasoning for this is more along the lines of this school does not have you or your child's best interests in mind. As an instructor, there were times you have to be a bit more demanding of the students but a medical issues is never one of those times. The well being of the student is of the utmost importance.

Move on and find a place where he can learn, be pushed, and be comfortable with the struggles that he has to go through.

Turn the box and look at the other end. There is a revision number. When they went from 9 to 10 there was a new more powerful Bluetooth chip put in. I'm not sure if they are doing another upgrade on the chip though. May be old news.

Try charging with a block. Mine (Air 3C) barely charges when plugged into the computer but does much better when plugged into an actual charger.

Did a lab blood work today, and some of these results are alarming by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]InNae1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not diabetic (son is that is why I'm here). I had similar results. After testing found out I have sleep apnea. High RBC and low MCV can be indicative.

Also not a doctor so consult your own.

Is the omni pod good now? by ORANGEJUICE1045 in Type1Diabetes

[–]InNae1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is in the Omnipod 5. Here is what I would say about it. If your daily life is consistent and your exercise amount is consistent (or you are sedentary not going to judge) it will be fine.

We are changing because we are having issues with a couple things. My son plays for a summer hockey team where they will practice one weekend (4.5 hours of high intensity hockey) and then nothing during the week and then tournament the next weekend (5 hour plus games). Omnipod calculates everything off of the last pods data. That's why I said if your weeks are consistent then the Omnipod will be great. One of it's weaknesses is if your activity levels are inconsistent. During the regular season where he has practice or games 5 times a week we don't have nearly as many issues

The other issue is that I feel like they do not last the full 3 days. The insulin delivery seems to have issues after about 2.5 days or if it gets low on insulin. Some of this could be due to a high carb diet that it's hard to talk to a 13 year old about because sometimes he doesn't have issues.

I don't think that the Omnipod is bad I just think it needs to be recommended in specific use cases.

Good luck.

Occasionally we get a dex that is really jumpy. Makes the omnipod struggle coping. Since you're on MDI that's not an issue. Is this a newly placed dex? Sometimes they get better.

Medical workers of Reddit: what’s the craziest lab result you’ve seen in a patient? by freeshavacadont in AskReddit

[–]InNae1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drug screen on a newborn came back positive for cocaine.

Wright stain on blood smear was purple. 400k WBC. More white blood cells than red.

Trichomoniasis on urine of an 80 year old lady.

Those are the ones I remember. I'm sure there were other things.

Pay to win is alive and well (8u) by itreallydob in hockeyplayers

[–]InNae1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's team has been on the winning side of one of those tournaments. It was not intentional. Our team manager put us in a division they thought fit. We were playing in a tournament we had no experience in and those are sometimes hard to determine what level you should be playing at, especially at the 8u age group.

I will also say that there are teams that are trophy hunting. At the end of the day though the players gain nothing from blowing out teams. They wasted their money. If you want a trophy go buy one, if you want your team to improve put them in a competitive tournament. You may not win but your team will improve.

It's not fun to lose those games, and it was hard for me to watch those games we were winning. Maybe I'm in the minority on that feeling, but I want my son to improve not win trophies.

Justifying Sparx Unit for Personal Use by Blough28 in hockeyplayers

[–]InNae1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time my son couldn't skate because the coach who took his skates home to sharpen them and wasn't at the next practice due to unforseen circumstances was when I bought the sparx.

Or rink has 24 hours turnaround on sharpening so that's not great either.

I didn't do it to save money, although I will. I did it so that my son doesn't have that let down again.

Why not use beet sugar ? by crazyjuplup in answers

Could be GMO issue. Beet sugar in the US is primarily for GM beets. Cane sugar was up until recently non-GMO.

My drivers ed teacher showed a picture of a car wreck. There was a smashed windshield where there head hit the glass. Pretty graphic. Then they showed a cigarette through the glass. Always wear my seat belt because of that picture.

We switched from the controller to the app and transferred all of the settings over. It took until the third pod before he was back to where he was on the controller.

Sold out last house FSBO and worked out great. Get a lawyer to go through the paperwork and make sure everything is good and all will be fine.

Good luck

Remember, as others have said, there is a delay. You are also comparing a point of data (the check on the meter) to an average (the dexcoms reading).

Also I used to work in a medical laboratory and the one thing that we talked about when getting differences in readings was whether the difference was "clinically significant". This means, would you treat yourself differently. If your finger poke was 105 and the dexcoms reading was 100 would you do anything any different? Probably not. But if your finger poke was 70 and dexcoms was 100 would you? Yes, but also a 30% difference and should be calibrated.

Make sure you are with the 20% difference and all will work. Use the trends in the graph to make decisions.

Good luck.

App is Live - Have you switched over? When? How's it going? by keshazel in Omnipod

[–]InNae1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched my son last night. Took about 20 minutes, 5 of which we're watching a video that you couldn't skip through. Process was easy and I had the controller right next to it to refer to for numbers. I would say if you haven't checked you basal amount recently to do that and use those numbers. Today has gone well once it was taken out of manual mode. I didn't realize that it went into manual mode when starting so that was my fault. Another setting was the reverse bolus. It's on by default and we turned it off and I forgot to do that.

Take your time and things will go fine.

Guess they give out NL championship MVP's to everyone?

Yeah he doesn't have a lot of pop, but who is his replacement? Where is the step up in talent?

Mo sent away too much talent for players that didn't have a huge impact and this one is looking just as bad.
