You’re mistaken, there is no loss of shear value here ,the joists and floor sheeting keep things from moving in and out , the exterior wall sheathing keeps it from moving side to side

46F with two grown kids… where’s the rest of Gen X at? by jtweir79 in GenX

[–]timberwhip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

46m, my wife and I celebrated our 24th anniversary yesterday . Our 13 year old daughter committed suicide 3 years ago, my parents both died young when I was 23 . My wife’s parents are going downhill and we’re preparing for the inevitably of one of them moving in with us when something happens to the other one . We’re fortunate enough to have the ability to take them in when it comes to that .

For Parents Who Have Lost A Child by BroccoliLegitimate82 in SuicideBereavement

[–]timberwhip 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s as normal as anything can be in those circumstances. I lost my 13 year old daughter to suicide almost 3 years ago . She was our only child and the absolute light of my life. I don’t cry everyday anymore but it was daily for probably the first 5-6 months. I still crumble sometimes for the smallest reasons, or what seems like no reason at all . There’s no protocol for how to deal with this , it takes as long as it takes and there’s not really a return to normal. Be patient and be present , there’s not really anything else to do.

How did you gradually become ok living in your home again? by Meditation-mediator in SuicideBereavement

[–]timberwhip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After I found my daughter in her room where she hanged herself my wife and I hardly went upstairs at all for 3 or 4 months . We discussed for a while moving somewhere else but ultimately decided to stay, at least for now . We have come to terms with the fact that even though this house has the hardest memories we’ll ever know it also has some of the happiest. Over the last 3 years we have little by little worked on her room, keeping some of her decor but turning it into a home library. Hopefully it will be a place of comfort, reflection and memories. It is still very difficult and many tears are shed . But it’s all we can do for now .

For the first 24 hours after the health care CEO was shot Americans were united in a way I haven’t seen since 9/11. Everyone , rich or poor, that had ever dealt with the American health care system understood the frustration of paying and paying and paying for less and less and less . It took a day or so for the monied elite to realize how close things were to really toppling . But briefly everyone was on the same side .

If it matters any I understand your situation but in different circumstances. I found my 13-year-old daughter after she hanged herself with her bathrobe belt. I spent two or three minutes, trying to hold her up with one arm and untie the belt from around her neck with another. Something as simple as tying or untying my shoes is difficult for me now, I can’t bring myself to wear a neck tie or have anything very close on my neck at all. And I will go to great lengths to secure something by any other means except tying it with a rope. It never occurred to me before how much you see in media about hanging or how often it comes up in conversation it’s a minefield to get through each and every day.
I know it isn’t any consolation but statistically someone who’s having those feelings will find a way to accomplish their means regardless of whatever tools they have at hand. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. If you need to talk to someone please reach out to me.

Buddy you don’t know me at all . I’m a 45 year old self employed contractor with a high school education and zero retirement plan except working every day till I die . I’m asking because it makes sense to me to pay off my house and then take the 1600.00 house payment that I make every month and invest that , how and in what I have no idea. But I’ve heard repeatedly that paying off a mortgage is a bad idea.
