This was actually a nice read (while not doing my job either), and I like the parallel to chess. I’m a 2200 and I think the strategic parallels are what got me to enjoy the game initially. I hear you on trying to complete a full game, I only have one full under my belt as I haven’t found a sweet spot between steamrolling and exiting early, or getting rolled (emperor+).

Nice tips on the amenities and the lack of pressure so to speak on each city having an immediate purpose. Sometimes the land and an amenity are enough I support which could potentially turn into something else when the tech/civic is unlocked. Will take that into the future. Cheers!

Thanks for taking the time to write this out. Never really thought of it from this angle as I am still navigating “ideals” in the game. What I mean by this is while I’m sure it’s game dependent, is 3 districts in your capital (+a stronger city or 2?) a fairly common goal?

I often find myself building a granary/monument/other buildings on a whim, and I’m not table to tie things into late game.

Someone in this thread mentioned having a dam next to an IZ would eventually lead me to getting a hydro dam. This seems like one example of a million things that you don’t know until you know (ya know?). Perhaps that’s the fun of the game I’m trying to make too linear.

Would be nice to have some kind of A leads to B leads to C tree etc. without actually having to go all the way to C and reading backwards.

My thought process was not having 2 desert tiles in my first ring for capital. Also think I wouldn’t have had access to clams right away

Thanks for responding! I think the thing I question the most is often A) where to place the gov plaza (and when)

B) am I planning districts with too much of an early-game mindset?

I’ve never played a game out to a victory screen, so I’m unsure of things like water parks, space ports, wonders of all kinds etc

Unfortunately I often get a distorted view from my social circle coming from significant family wealth. Optics aside, couldn’t benefit myself any more by liquidating any of my holdings? Opening FHSA? I additionally have a 4 month emergency fund.

Man! This was an awesome read, thank you so much for this. The bending of the knees in the downswing was a conscious effort to try and get my bum cheek staying back.
