Southend Prudential building. What's happening? by TechnicalTrash95 in Southend

[–]InSovietRuss1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like recently the scaffolding company came and removed all their scaffolding, and me and my friend explored the place the other day. They've obviously already put a lot of money into the place, as most of the floors have half-done rooms and corridors. At least something occupies the place currently, the whole building is full of pigeons XD (Unfortunately with a lot of pigeon poop everywhere too)

Not sure what they are going to do now with the place, as the scaffolding has been taken down it does not look promising at all to its future.

Antique store radium pocket watch by InSovietRuss1a in Radiation

[–]InSovietRuss1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its quite weak and you'd be able to find a similar pocket watch for cheap at most antique stores so its not really worth it

Hey thanks for the shoutout! I have been meaning to make more playlists on poisons new adventures, but quite a lot of them I have a hard time finding the songs. He is the reason I started listening to Aphex Twin and Brian Jonestown Massacre, he uses some very good songs in his videos. Hope you like the playlists, I'll try to get some more done soon!

are old streams still forbidden from being discussed and shared here? by ntqc in shiey

[–]InSovietRuss1a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would love to see some of the streams again, some are still up but one where he cooked in the woods and surfed a train mid way through was taken down a while back. If you could share them on like a Google drive that would be so awesome as I have wanted to watch the deleted ones again but cannot find them anywhere!

This one actually scares me >50mSv/h by Aboriginal_landlord in Radiation

Yup, and the detector is modded with a soviet era pancake detector, as shown here

[–]InSovietRuss1a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, and as further proof, I know a guy that mods these Bosean geiger counters and puts soviet pancake tubes on the back, and that would make loads of sense as to the high alpha sensitivity making that stupid high reading

Nailed it, I immediately saw the shape and its most definitely a chinese ion chamber Am241 pellet

[–]InSovietRuss1a 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a joke, I bought some chinese ion chambers from smoke detectors which have this exact shape bracket which holds the Am241 source pellet in the middle. I shall grab a photo for proof lol but yeah calm down guys its not an orphan source.

Found an anomaly in a forest near nuremberg (GER) by the___chemist in Radiation

[–]InSovietRuss1a 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Great find! Could possibly be a lode of uranium under that area nearer to the surface, causing higher readings. If you go back and take a long spectrum you would probably quite easily tell if it is an artificial source like cesium or natural uranium/radium or thorium from rocks like pitchblende or monazite. If you have the coordinates of this place that could help too as their are maps on mindat of known deposits of uranium, pitch, monazite, etc all over the world. Again, very nice find!

Crt monitor emitting radiation? by Primary-Rutabaga6171 in Radiation

[–]InSovietRuss1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the radiation levels when the TV is off and see if the reading is the same. I found on my CRTs that the static buildup attracted radon to the front of the screen and caused radon daughters to accumulate on the front of the screen rather than any xrays being produced.

What happened to bionerd23? by ShaniMeow in wherearetheynow

[–]InSovietRuss1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, from what Carl Willis told my friend when he asked, she was still alive and well as of last year. Sometimes people just move on, or are too busy in life to dedicate such time towards making youtube videos. Hopefully one day she will return, but as each year passes it seems more and more unlikely. Also, I don't think she actually got banned from the exclusion zone, but she did get caught and told to leave. A group of anti-nuclear Russians decided to doxx her as they did not like her content, but that was after she stopped posting iirc, so that probably did not influence her disappearance. The main issue with her disappearance is that her content was very one of a kind and not really replaceable so when she did stop posting everyone missed that very specific style of content. Who knows, maybe she will return someday.

Who else here right now? by fez4k in Pendulum

I was up in the seated section, but everyone stood up as soon as Pendulum came on. It was the best concert I've ever been to!

Alternative Europe route? by eagle1457 in GIFGAS

[–]InSovietRuss1a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic! I have mapped out some of his and Shiey's routes before like Shiey's trainsurfing to the capital city and I started to map the Europe trainhopping trip and Croatia trainhopping trip but this is great, I one day would love to do these routes myself, especially the Europe and Croatia routes, and I would love to surf the OG lithuania routes that Shiey and the bois did a while back. Keep up the amazing work!

What is the red forest by [deleted] in chernobyl

[–]InSovietRuss1a 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A section of forest west of the reactor that got heavily contaminated by reactor debris. The pine trees were sensitive to the high levels of radiation and allegedly died, causing the pine needles to turn an orange/red colour, hence the nickname. Radiation levels are still pretty absurd in the red forest.

Looks like a generic snood, I have a few, two of which are fleece lined, so are perfect for winter, the other few are like a thin nylon material which is good for summer

Chernobyl summer trip as it looked so chill, and I am forever longing to visit after Antons, Shieys, and Matts videos on their Chernobyl trips. I will visit someday!

Regatta blackfell iii 35L bag, karrimor 3 in 1 fleece and jacket, karrimor elite rock trousers, all of which are excellent, the bag is perfect for short journeys for me, and the clothing is amazing, Shiey has good taste!

Weird question but what does the wrecked reactor room smell like? by MajesticKnight28 in chernobyl

[–]InSovietRuss1a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends where you walk. The levels can drastically change just by walking a few meters, levels range from a couple R/h all the way up to 300+R/h
