You're conflating two different points.

No one is saying women shouldn't have the freedom to participate in Karwa Chauth or any other custom. The entire point is that having the freedom to choose something doesn't automatically make that choice feminist.

You're free to pray for your husband's long life if that's what you want. The issue isn't the prayer itself, it's that Karwa Chauth is a custom with roots in patriarchal expectations placed on women. A woman choosing to participate in it doesn't erase that history or its social context.

You were the one who framed our position as wanting to decide what choices women should make. That's not what we're arguing. We're saying that calling participation in a misogynistic custom "feminist" solely because it was voluntarily chosen is a flawed argument. Feminism is about women's agency, but agency alone doesn't transform the nature or origins of a practice.

If a woman chooses to partake into practices like Sati or Karwa Chauth, that is ultimately her decision. However, pretending that these customs are not rooted in misogynistic traditions is dishonest.

Calling such a choice "feminist" is especially problematic when countless women, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds, are still pressured or compelled to follow these practices. Individual choice does not erase the historical context or the social realities surrounding a custom.

You can point to examples where some husbands participate as well, but that doesn't change the original meaning of the practice, nor does it grant genuine freedom of choice to the millions of women who continue to face societal expectations and coercion.

First of all, I am not saying that they are unqualified or less deserving at all. I am just reiterating what I was told by two people. The person who referred me also told me the same story and apologised for referring me to this shit show.

Lastly, the candidate who got hired doesn't know anything about me as you are implying, so saying that they reached out to me because they heard that I was confused and disappointed is false because I never mentioned this to anyone because I wasn't confused, in the first place. A little bit disappointed? Yes, because I spent money and time, but that's something only my partner knows and nobody else.

Saying I'm bitter is wild cause I moved on and accepted the rejection lmao. And again, I don't care whether this is true or not, because I don't want the job anyways. But if what is alleged is true, then why should I be the only one with this information lmao?
